ACTIVITIES
The activities of the Center for Architectural Studies focus on different
fields of the history of architecture and urban planning in the Bulgarian
lands from ancient period to modern times, such as the study of the Thracian
architecture in Bulgaria, as well as the specific characteristics of Bulgarian
architecture, the architectural stylistic influences, and comparative studies
in the larger context of the Balkan and European architecture. Some scholars
in the Center study the architecture on the border of the late Middle Ages
and Modern Times, the continuity in architectural traditions through the ages;
the new ideas in Europe and their impact on world architecture. Additional
attention is given to the preservation of the architectural heritage and its
importance for the development of cultural tourism in Bulgaria. The study
of Modern architecture focuses on the history of Bulgarian urban planning
and urbanism, the development of contemporary urban theory, and the Modern
Bulgarian architecture. The studies of the recent Bulgarian architecture are
based on the impact of the new economic and socio - cultural changes in the
country on the architectural work.
