International scholars in the field of librarianship discussed in Sofia the digitization of books at the forum "The Digital Library - technological and social issues." It was organized by the "National Academic Library and Information System" (NALIS). More than 300 Bulgarian and international experts participated in the event.

On 15 May at the National Museum Bratislava Castle in Bratislava, Slovakia, the exhibition "In the beginning was the letter. Bulgaria and the Slavic alphabets" was opened. It is devoted to the 1150th anniversary of the Great Moravian mission of Cyril and Methodius and the creation of the Slavic alphabet and to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Slovak Republic.

On 19 April, Bulgarian equipment was mounted on the International Space Station / ISS /. It was created by the Institute for Space Research and Technology at BAS, in collaboration with an international team, and has been in development for over 10 years. The apparatus was part of a research complex for the Project "Environment", involving 7 countries - Russia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Sweden, Great Britain, Poland and Hungary.

On May 10, 2013, the National Institute of Archaeology with Museum will host Bulgarian NIAS Day 2013 - the annual meeting of the Bulgarian scholars who have been Fellows at NIAS - The Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences, carried out with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands.

In 2013 the world’s cultural community observes the 200th anniversary of the birth of Richard Wagner.
With a jubilee conference on the topic "The Cosmos called Wagner and us", the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Sofia Opera and Ballet will launch this great celebration in Bulgaria. The forum will be held on 10 May (Friday) at 10.00 in the Great Hall at BAS.

On 29.04.2013 at the invitation of the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Academician Stefan Vodenicharov, Mr. Bert December Kolvenaer came on a working visit – he is the Executive Director of the joint technology initiative "Fuel Cell and Hydrogen" (FCH JU) at the European Commission in Bulgaria.

Today, 25.04.2013, at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences a meeting between the President of BAS Acad. Stefan Vodenicharov and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Marin Raykov was held.

On 19.04.2013 a meeting was held at the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts / MASA / between the delegation of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, led by its President Acad. Stefan Vodenicharov and the MASA delegation led by its President, Acad. Vlado Kambovski.

Scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and their achievements were the focus of the events on the last day of IT week'2013, which was held at BAS. The purpose of the initiative was to bring together scientists, students, academics and representatives of the business and to help to increase awareness of advances in this field.

Today, 18 April, at the exhibition space of the main building of the Academy of Sciences, the President of BAS Acad. Stefan Vodenicharov opened the exhibition "Holograms of the Treasures of the Thracian tomb near Mezzek."
