Project
Portable and Emergency Energy Sources
POEMES
Centre of Excellence

of the European Comission for
Community Activities in the Field of the specific programme for RTD and demonstration on
"Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development - Part B: Energy program"

Aim
The project aims at providing for a large scientific and social platform for the accumulation, systematization and dissemination of knowledge on Portable and Emergency Energy Sources.
Main Objectives
•  Coordination and assemby of the existing departamental links with international and local partners into a European network
•  Partnership enhancement via mutual Ph.D. students and young researchers education and complied research
•  Enrichment of the existing knowledge and creation of a specific knowledge bank
•  Practical acquaintance with the e-science tools and development of specific new ones
•  Approbation of new generic ideas. The implementation of the project contributes to the dissemination of POEMES knowledge and ERA* ideas to the general public.  *European Research Area
Knowledge Bank
The main kernel of the work is the enrichment of the accumulated expertise on Portable and Emergency Energy Sources and its assortment into a knowledge bank. The envisaged area includes:
•  Techniques for Investigation
•  Active Materials and Technologies for Lithium-Ion, Solid State and Metal hydride-Air Cells and Emergency Batteries
•  Benchmarking of these Energy Sources.
Knowledge Dissemination
The project's target is the large dissemination of the acquired knowledge. Different classical approaches and advanced tools support this aim:
•  Co-tuition of young researchers
•  Organization of Workshops satelited by highly interactive Advanced Study Forums
•  Preparation and dissemination of two books
•  Web supported e-school
•  Shared Laboratory for Testing, Analysis and Research of POEMES with software supported Virtual Research.

POEMES Products
A development of a new method of investigation is included into these activities - Non-stationary Differential Impedance Spectroscopy providing for a deeper insight into the studied processes. Substantial work is focused on the logistic of emergency sources and on the assembling of a Knowledge Bank as well as for Benchmarking of the existing technologies for energy storage in the field of Portable and Emergency Sources. The concluding project phase includes the preparation of two scientific books.
