The Institute for Parallel Processing (IPP) is one of the leading scientific institutions in the area of Mathematical Sciences of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). IPP carries out fundamental and applied research mainly in the fields of Computer Science and Communication Technologies. The European Commission projects entrusted to it demonstrate its high quality research work. For the periods 2001-2004 and 2005-2007 IPP has been chosen as Bulgarian
IST Centre of Competence in 21 Century .
Besides the BAS planned research activities, IPP performs scientific research by national and international contracts, education of PhD and MSc students, qualification courses for specialists, young researchers and students. It has a leading role in organizing prestigious scientific events in different directions of Computer Science and Communication Technologies. In 1994, the Institute succeeded in proving the first Internet-connection in Bulgaria to the European academic research network (EARN) and still continues to manage and support the main node of the Bulgarian academic network.
