IPP has available modern equipment:
- PC for all staff members;
- 10 Dell servers;
- 10 Cisco routers and Layer 3 switches;
- 12 Sun workstations,
connected in a Local Area Ethernet Network of 1 Gb/s speed. Working places are equipped with video and teleconference devices and have access to printers and scanners.
In IPP premises, the main node of the Bulgarian Research and Educational Network
(BREN) is located and is equipped with modern communication architecture. Besides,
there are functioning Grid clusters and mass memory of several tens of terabytes,
network-accessible for internal and external users. IPP has installed multimedia
halls at John Atanasoff Virtual University.
The available IPP infrastructure is intended to serve the main node of the Bulgarian Research and Educational Network (BREN) and to provide the use of GRID high performance multiprocessor resources via Internet.
The BREN main node is served by three Cisco routers, one of which is Cisco 12000 and two routers Juniper M160 and M40, as well as by six powerful servers, including five two-processor ones. The external connectivity of the BREN main node is carried out by the Point-of-Presence node of the European Academic Network, located in the IPP premises. The infrastructure providing resources with the GRID organization includes 3 computer clusters (the first of 40 working two-processor servers), each of 4 GBytes operation memory, 160 GBytes local disc memory and internal network connectivity based on 1 Gbit Ethernet , supplemented with high performance low delay Myrinet local network. The first GRID cluster has additionally joined six high performance two-processor servers performing serving functions.
The second GRID cluster includes 18 working servers and one operating server, based on PCs with specifications: Intel Pentium 4 2,8 GHz, 1GByte RAM, 100 GBytes local disc and 1 GBit Ethernet internal connectivity.
The third GRID cluster has 25 working servers, each with 2 four-nuclear processors, 16 GBytes operation memory, 250 GBytes local disc memory and 1 GBit Ethernet internal connectivity. The cluster has also 2 additional high performance 2-processor servers. To serve the GRID clusters and the support BREN node an autonomous mass memory network (Storage Area Network) is used. Its organization includes 2 commutators with 16 ports each and Fibre Channel interface, with joined 1.8 TBytes fast disc memory with Fibre Channel interface, 28.0 TBytes disc memories with SATA interface and robotized library with two tape devices and 200 GBytes cassette tape carrier.
Scientific staff - total of 66 persons including two academicians, five full professors, 35 associate professors, 7 doctors of sciences, 40 PhDs.
