The seventh Pupuls’ Scientific Session (PSS) of the High-School Student Institute of BAS (HSSI-BAS) was held entirely online from 10 to 12 November 2020. A total of 190 students, supervisors, consultants and jury members took part in the session. Sixty-eight projects / developments were presented. Their authors are students from 5th to 12th grade. Some of the authors participated in two or more developments.

The projects were distributed and presented in 6 thematic sections: Mathematics, Informatics and Information Technologies, Biology: Biomedicine and Biodiversity, Interdisciplinary Projects, Humanities and Social Sciences and Fine Arts.

A total of 58 students were awarded by the juries of the individual sections. The ranking took into account not only the content of the paper and the reviewer’s opinion but also the presentation of the results during the session as well as the answers to the questions during the discussion after each presentation.

The seventh PPS was characterized by several features. There was a student who participated successfully with his own development and at the same time he was the leader of another pupils’ development. A former participant in HSSI-BAS, now a student abroad, he was the head of a pupils’ development. Some supervisors and / or consultants scientifically supported more than two projects.

Here are the names of some of the most active research supervisors and consultants of student research: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vanya Micheva from the Institute of Bulgarian Language – BAS, Darina Brancheva, Eleonora Nikolova, Marina Stoilova, Eleonora Pavlova, Radka Kostadinova, Antonia Marovska, Cvetalina Toprakchieva, Daniela Palikova, Nevena Ichevska, Diyana Boeva, Assoc. Prof. Vera Kolyovska, Assoc. Prof. Stanislav Harizanov from IICT and others.

Assoc. Prof. Vanya Micheva consults every year pupils’ projects presented at sessions of HSSI-BAS, and during the current session, she was a consultant of 3 projects which were  once again awarded by the jury.

Eleonora Nikolova is a head teacher at the “Konstantin Preslavski” National High School for Humanities and Arts – Varna. Since the establishment of the High School Student Institute of BAS, her pupils have been regular participants in all sessions of HSSI-BAS, and their research impresses with sustainable research interest, teamwork and significant contribution to the study of culture, traditions and customs of Asparuhovo, Dalgopol municipality, district Varna. Marina Stoilova, a graduate of Cultural and Social Anthropology at the University of Vienna, returns to Bulgaria every summer to lead, together with Eleonora Nikolova, the fieldwork of dedicated and patriotic students among their respondents – the local Chengenes.

Darina Brancheva is the scientific supervisor of 5 student research papers in the 2020 session. She is a senior teacher of informatics and information technologies at the “Acad. Kiril Popov” High School of Mathematics – Plovdiv. Over the years, she has been the scientific supervisor of other valuable developments presented at the sessions of HSSI-BAS.

Eleonora Pavlova is an IT teacher, “Dr. Petar Beron” High School of Mathematics, who has been leading and guiding for years ambitious and capable young people to overcome their own boundaries, have big dreams and be competitive around the world.

Radka Kostadinova is loved by her students as a teacher of physics and astronomy at “Ivan Vazov” Secondary School – Varshets. She inspires and guides their zeal for science and research. She is the scientific supervisor of many pupils’ projects with excellent results, presented at sessions of HSSI-BAS.

Antonia Marovska is an ambitious and generous teacher at “Petko Rachov Slaveykov” Secondary School – Kardzhali. She transmits her energy to the students and reveals to them the power and beauty of the word. She is the scientific supervisor of a number of pupils’ projects, crowned with honours by the juries.

Cvetalina Toprakchieva is a senior teacher of history and civilization at “Dobri P. Chintulov” High School of Mathematcis – Sliven and research supervisor of excellent projects presented at the sessions of HSSI-BAS in the humanities and social sciences.

Daniela Palikova is a biology teacher at the “Atanas Radev” High School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics – Yambol. The students led by her have been winning awards not only in the country but also abroad. Her commitment to the profession and science captivates young minds and helps them grow in their chosen field of science.

Lyudmila Marincheva Marinova-Boyadzhieva, PhD student at the Faculty of Biology at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”and lecturer in biology and chemistry at the High School with Foreign Language Teaching in Pleven. She is the research supervisor of pupils’ projects with interesting and relevant public health topics.

Nevena Ichevska is another dedicated and ambitious professional from the team of HSM “Acad. K. Popov”, Plovdiv. She is a scientific supervisor of wonderful young people whose knowledge can compete with those of students in “Bulgarian Philology”.

Diyana Boeva ​​is a young teacher at the “Geo Milev” Foreign Language High School in Dobrich who loves her job and confidently opens the eyes of her students to the important things in life.

Assoc. Prof. Vera Kolyovska is a scientist at IEMPAM – BAS who impresses with her dedicated and heartfelt attitude towards students with an interest in research. She predisposes and guides them but also manages to bring to light the best of their capabilities at the moment.

Assoc. Prof. Stanislav Harizanov from IMI-BAS / IICT-BAS is a young but already well-known and proven expert in the field of mathematics and informatics. He is the leader of the national mathematics team for the International Mathematical Olympiad, winner of numerous awards and recognitions from the country and abroad. Assoc. Prof. Harizanov is the scientific supervisor of many student projects that have won awards from the sessions of HSSI-BAS. He actively participates in the review of student works and was a member of the jury for interdisciplinary projects.
