The Museums of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will participate in the initiative “European Night of Museums – Sofia 2022”, which will take place on 14 May, Saturday. The organisers are the Embassy of the French Republic, the French Institute in Bulgaria, the Ministry of Culture and Sofia Municipality.

In the auditorium of the National Museum of Anthropology at IEMPAM – BAS will be presented a series of popular science talks on interesting and socially significant anthropological and medical issues. Scientists will perform measurements to determine anthropological type and flat-foot in children. Guided tours will be organised for the guests in the renovated permanent exhibition of the National Museum of Anthropology. More information is available at:

On the European Night of Museums, the National Museum of Natural History at BAS offers free access to its exposition from 18:00 to 23:30. The permanent exposition of the NMNHs-BAS presents the biological and mineralogical diversity of the Earth, as well as samples from the Moon and meteorite samples from Mars.

The artists of the “36 Monkeys” staff invite you to “INTO THE LITTLE BIG WORLD OF BATS,” a temporary exhibition in the museum lobby. The project tells the story of the hypotheses that traveler and bat researcher Antoniya Hubancheva is currently proving with her experiments in the field of sensory ecology, through original footage from research recordings taken at the “Björn Siemers” Bat Research Center in the village of Tabacka.

The National Institute of Archaeology with Museum at BAS is open for visits from 18:00 to 24:00 (last entrance at 23:30). Visitors will be able to see the temporary exhibitions “Bulgarian Archaeology 2021”, “Time, Matter and Spirit. Restoration at NAIM-BAS” and “The Armour of Thracian Warriors”. There will also be mediators who will guide visitors through the different eras and the temporary exhibitions.

The National Ethnographic Museum will participate in the European Night of Museums with the exhibitions “The Way to the Table” and “TIMES AND PEOPLE – the Living Traditions of Bulgaria”. At 20:00 there will be a screening of the film “From “The House with the Dolls” to the yellow paving stones”, dedicated to the National Ethnographic Museum /floor 2, Hall 19/. The museum will be open for free admission from 19:00 to 24:00 (last admission at 23:30).
