The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, visited today the prehistoric salt-mining and urban center Provadia-Solnitsa, studied this year by a team of the National Archaeological Institute and Museum of BAS and the Historical Museum in Provadia under the leadership of Acad. Vassil Nikolov. The guest was acquainted with the new results of the excavation of structures from the 6th and 5th millennium BC, the conservation and restoration activities and the socialisation of the monument. Acad. Nikolov regretted the lack of a clear state strategy regarding the financing of the study and conservation of the archaeological heritage in Bulgaria, which was expressed in the last year also in the unacceptable delay in the implementation of the relevant supporting state programmes. They agreed on the idea of priority state funding of the necessary activities for a small number of archaeological monuments under study, which at the same time should become objects of international cultural tourism and a source of economic revitalization of specific regions of the country.
