The Institute of Experimental Morphology, Pathology and Anthropology with Museum (IEMPAM) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the Bulgarian Anatomical Society, organized the 9th National Conference with International Participation, “Morphological Days” which took place from June 12 to 14, 2026, at Interpred – WTC Sofia.

The scientific forum brought together scientists, lecturers, and researchers from universities and institutes in Bulgaria and abroad working in the field of experimental morphology at the cellular, organ, systemic, and organismal levels.

The forum was officially opened by Corr. Memb. Prof. Nina Atanasova, DSc – Chair of the Organizing Committee and by Prof. Elisabeth Eppler – President of the European Federation for Experimental Morphology. Greetings to the organizers and participants of the conference were delivered by Prof. Dr. Lazar Zhelev – Chair of the Bulgarian Anatomical Society, Prof. Galya Staneva – Scientific Secretary of the “Biomedicine and Quality of Life” Division at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Ivelin Vladov – Director of IEMPAM.

The conference program featured 17 plenary lectures, 30 oral presentations, and 57 posters. Invited speakers from leading research centers and universities in Bulgaria and abroad – Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Georgia, Turkey, Egypt, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Slovakia, the Republic of Serbia, and the Republic of North Macedonia – presented their scientific discoveries and global trends in the development of morphological science. There was significant participation by students, young scientists, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers.

At the end of the forum, Prof. Dr. Lazar Zhelev presented certificates for the best oral and poster presentations.

Dr. Alessandro Bilella (University of Bern, Switzerland) and his team; PhD student Bogomil Peshev (Institute of Neurobiology-BAS) and team were awarded certificates for their oral presentation. Certificates for poster presentations were awarded to Asst. Prof. Maria Gevezova (Medical University of Plovdiv) and team, as well as to PhD candidate Vyara Zaykova (Medical University of Plovdiv) and team.
