More importantly, it marked the beginnings of Geometry of Numbers, which studies intricate interactions between lattices and geometric shapes. In this framework, solutions\u00a0of diophantine equations are interpreted as rational or integral points. The existence and distribution of such points are tightly linked to global geometric and topological invariants of algebraic varieties described by these equations. In turn, the geometric invariants involve hidden symmetries, polytopes, and volumes.
