Terence Tao, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), will deliver a colloquium talk on Sendov&#8217;s conjecture organized by the International Center for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS-Sofia) at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics \u2013 BAS, the Institute of Mathematical Sciences of the Americas at the University of Miami (IMSA) and the Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians (UBM).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Terence Tao is an Australian-American mathematician, born in 1975. He is a professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California. He works in a number of mathematical areas, but primarily in harmonic analysis, PDE, geometric combinatorics, arithmetic combinatorics, analytic number theory, compressed sensing, and algebraic combinatorics. Tao is an editor or an associate editor at several mathematical journals (https:\/\/www.math.ucla.edu\/~tao\/submissions.html).<\/p>\n<p>He is the author and co-author of over three hundred scientific publications.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-32645 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bas.bg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Sendov-300x212.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bas.bg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Sendov-150x106.png 150w, https:\/\/www.bas.bg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Sendov-200x141.png 200w, https:\/\/www.bas.bg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Sendov-300x212.png 300w, https:\/\/www.bas.bg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Sendov-400x283.png 400w, https:\/\/www.bas.bg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Sendov.png 512w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Terence Tao was awarded the Fields Medal in 2006. In 2012, he won the Crafoord Prize of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, which is considered equal to the Nobel Prize. In 2014 Terence Tao became a laureate of The Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics \u201c<strong><em>for numerous breakthrough contributions to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harmonic_analysis\">harmonic analysis<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Combinatorics\">combinatorics<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Partial_differential_equation\">partial differential equations<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Analytic_number_theory\">analytic number theory<\/a><\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u201d<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In December, 2020, Prof. Tao managed to make a major breakthrough in the proof of Sendov\u2019s conjecture about the distribution of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Critical_point_(mathematics)\">critical points<\/a> of a complex polynomial, proving this conjecture for sufficiently high degree polynomials (https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/2012.04125).<\/p>\n<p>His lecture is entitled <strong><em>Sendov\u2019s conjecture for sufficiently high degree polynomials<\/em><\/strong>.
