He is a poet, writer and literary scholar. He is the author of more than 15 books in various genres &#8211; poetry, short stories, novels, plays, librettos for opera, studies of the recent past, film scripts. His \u201cNatural Novel\u201d and \u201cThe Physics of Sorrow\u201d novel have been translated into 25 languages in over 40 countries worldwide. &#8222;Blind Vaysha,&#8220; a short film based on his short story of the same name, made it to the final Oscar nominations in 2017. He works at NATFA &#8222;Krastyo Sarafov&#8220; as a professor of semiotics of art; member of the Faculty Council of &#8222;Screen Arts&#8220;; member of the Academic Council of NATFA; head of the Advisory Council to the Rector &#8222;Strategic Development&#8220;; head of the Department of World Culture. His interdisciplinary research in the semiotics of art is a leading one. He has developed and applied new methods, making good use of the modern apparatus of functional analysis, special functions, complex analysis, integral equations, Tauber&#8217;s theorems, distribution theory and the whole arsenal of probability theory. He works in the field of theoretical and mathematical physics. His scientific contributions are related to the theory of gravitation, relativistic astrophysics, cosmology and black hole theory. He has established a new field in black hole physics and astrophysics. He has founded a scientific school of relativistic astrophysics and mathematical gravitation (mathematical study of Einstein&#8217;s equations and their modifications). He is one of the leading neurosurgeons in Bulgaria, enjoying great national and international reputation. He has developed scientific activity in various fields of neurosurgery such as neuro-oncology, vascular neurosurgery, spinal surgery, neurotraumatology. He has performed, alone or in a team, more than 5 000 interventions in a wide range of brain and spinal neurosurgical diseases. He has pioneered various aspects of navigated spine surgery and robotic neurosurgery. He works as head of the neurosurgery clinic of \u201cN. I. Pirogov\u201d university hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The competition for the election of academicians and corresponding members of BAS has ended.
