Research Assistant Dr. Krum Banov and Senior Assistant Dr. Borislava Mladenova from IEES-BAS are the winners of the competition for young scientists, which was held within Sofia Electrochemical Days SED `22. Krum Banov won the award for the best oral presentation and Borislava Mladenova made the best poster presentation. The prizes were awarded by the chairman of the international jury Prof. DSc Eng.\u00a0 Martin Bojinov from UCTM-Sofia. The two young scientists received award plaques, diplomas from IEES-BAS and a one-time financial incentive from UCTM-Sofia.<\/p>\n

Sofia Electrochemical Days SED`22 were opened on 11 May by the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy. In his speech, he recalled the necessity of holding conferences to share knowledge between more experienced and young colleagues on the one hand and on the other – between Bulgarian scientists and their colleagues from abroad. We should remember the founders and pass on their experience to young researchers, said also Prof. Revalski.<\/p>\n

Sofia Electrochemical Days SED`22 were dedicated to the patron of the IEES, Acad. Evgeni Budevski. In 2022, it will be the 100th anniversary of his birth.<\/p>\n

More than 80 participants from 7 countries took part in the forum: Bulgaria, Germany, Egypt, Israel, Spain, Portugal and the USA.<\/p>\n

With a focus on state-of-the-art developments and research in electrochemistry and physical chemistry, over 40 oral papers and 42 poster presentations were presented. The plenary lectures of Dr. Boris Monahov from WaveTech GmbH, Germany; Prof. Dr. Plamen Atanassov from the University of California, Irvine, USA; Dr. Eng. Ana Arenillas from INCAR-CSIC, Spain; and Prof. DSc. Daria Vladikova from IEES-BAS, Bulgaria were met with special interest.<\/p>\n

In a thematic session chaired by Corr. Mem. Evelina Slavcheva, the latest achievements in the scientific work of the teams from the Centre of Competence „HITMOBIL \u2013 Technologies for generation, storing and consumption of clean energy“ (BG05M2OP001-1.002-0014-C02) were presented. Developments related to new types of batteries based on new elements; the modification of electrodes with new catalysts, including biocatalysts; new polymer membranes, etc. were shown. Progress was also reported in their application in prototypes for economically extracted and sustainable clean energy.<\/p>\n
