Prof. Ivan Georgiev &#8211; Scientific Secretary of the \u201cInformation and Communication Sciences and Technologies\u201d division of BAS and Prof. Dimitar Tonev &#8211; Director of the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy.\u00a0 During the visit, the Bulgarian delegation met with the Director-General of the Organization, Professor Fabiola Gianotti, the Director for International Relations Charlotte Warakaulle, and the Head of Member State Relations Peter Chochula. Prospects for the involvement of scientists of BAS in future research in the fields of high energy physics, big data processing and machine learning were discussed.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the delegation visited important sites of the unique infrastructure and were accompanied by Bulgarians working at CERN &#8211; Peter Hristov, Zornitsa Zaharieva and Gueorgui Antchev. The delegation visited the facilities of the two large experiments CMS and ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider which involve Bulgarian scientists. The contribution of BAS scientists in building and maintaining the research infrastructure was highlighted.<\/p>\n<p>The Data Processing Centre discussed the possibility of including computing resources of BAS in the Integrated High Performance Computing and Data Storage System of CERN. The members of the delegation were interested to acquaint themselves with the modern methods of presenting CERN&#8217;s scientific results to the general public, students and schoolchildren.
