On 5 November the exhibition marking 155 years since the establishment of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was opened at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The event was organized jointly by the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Council of Europe, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the European Association \u201cCyril and Methodius\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Maria Spassova, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Council of Europe, presented the exhibition as a journey through time, tracing the contribution of BAS in various fields of modern science. She focused on the sustainability of the Academy, established before the Liberation of Bulgaria, its evolution through historical challenges and its unwavering commitment to knowledge, scientific development and the safeguarding of national identity.<\/p>\n

Corr. Mem. Evdokia Pasheva – Vice-President of BAS, presented the history of the oldest Bulgarian scientific institution, successor of the Bulgarian Learned Society, founded in 1869 in Braila. She presented the achievements of the scientific institutes of BAS in the development of IT technologies, nuclear energy, robotics, space research, ecology, development of nanomaterials, biomedicine, in the study of cultural and historical heritage and a number of other fundamental and applied scientific achievements that have received European and world recognition.<\/p>\n

In his speech, Villano Qiriazi, Head of the Council of Europe’s Education Policy Division, stressed that BAS, as the largest scientific institution in Bulgaria with a proven international reputation, not only embodies the traditions of the past but also actively supports our country on the path of its European integration with the implementation of successful scientific projects and innovations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
