A national workshop on the CASRI project (Collaborative Action coordinating and enhancing systemic, actionable and transversal Sustainability Research and Innovation) was held at the Botanical Garden of the BAS. The project is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme, launched in January 2024. BAS is a full member in a consortium of 13 European countries, including the European Environment Agency.<\/p>\n

Assoc. Prof. Ina Aneva (project leader for the country) and Corr. Mem. Prof. Dimitar Ivanov presented the results of the project to stakeholders. The aim of CASRI is to improve cooperation between European environmental agencies and to promote innovative research and solutions in the field of sustainability. CASRI uses an approach that involves collecting and analysing information from participating countries, identifying common themes related to global challenges and sustainable development goals and developing strategies for jointly funding and implementing research projects.<\/p>\n

The project focuses on four main themes:<\/p>\n

  1. Sustainable, circular production systems with zero net emissions;<\/li>\n
  2. Biodiversity and climate;<\/li>\n
  3. Sustainable urbanisation;<\/li>\n
  4. Energy transition.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The event was held in the renovated conference hall of the Botanical Garden of BAS<\/a>, and besides discussions and presentations, the participants in the workshop had the opportunity to see and learn about part of the rich collection of plants from around the world.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
