Scientists from three institutes of BAS participated in an initiative to reforest the campus of Scientific Complex 1. Several species of saplings were planted at the idea of young scientists from the Institute for Population and Human Studies, among which ginkgo biloba, common sycamore and red oak predominated. The event coincided with the celebration of „Forest Week“ (7 – 14 April 2025) which this year is under the theme „A Century of Eternity in Creation, Conservation and Care“.<\/p>\n

Scientists from the Forest Research Institute and the Space Research and Technology Institute also participated in the planting. „Such events help to bring the teams from the various institutes on these campuses together,“ BAS President Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva said, adding that the idea could be expanded by beautifying the entire campus grounds.<\/p>\n

„Bulgaria has reason for national pride in forestry because we have preserved the most valuable natural forests in Europe. Our scientists have also made achievements that rank us first, such as anti-erosion afforestation and the construction of the system of field protection belts, which provide soil protection from wind erosion and improve fertility and microclimate,“ the Director of the Forest Research Institute, Corr. Memb. Georgi Georgiev, said.<\/p>\n

The planting was carried out according to a previously prepared landscape project for afforestation which would allow the formation of a new green area for recreation and outdoor work on the campus of Scientific Complex 1 of BAS.<\/p>\n
