A lecture on the digital transformation of relay protection and automation systems was delivered today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences by Dr. Alexander Apostolov. In the „Prof. Marin Drinov\u201d Hall, he spoke about his professional path and achievements which became an occasion to be nominated and elected as a member of the American Academy of Engineering.<\/p>\n

„We are extremely proud that there are such Bulgarians in the world. Dr. Alexander Apostolov comes from a family in which interests in various sciences are intertwined,“ the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, said when presenting him.\u00a0 Dr. Apostolov is the great-grandson of Acad. Aleksandar Balan.<\/p>\n

Dr. Alexander Apostolov is a Principal Engineer at OMICRON electronics in Los Angeles, USA. He has over 51 years of experience in the field of power systems protection, automation, control and communications. He is a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Power System Relaying and Control Committee of the Power & Energy Society of the IEEE (IEEE PES PSRC). In 2007, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award of the IEEE PES.<\/p>\n

Dr. Apostolov is the author of the book „IEC 61850: Digitizing the Electric Power Grid“. He has received numerous awards from the International Council on Large Electrical Systems (CIGRE) and IEEE. He is the Editor-in-Chief of PAC World magazine and Chair of the conference of the same name.<\/p>\n

In 2025, Dr. Apostolov was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. He has authored over 650 technical papers presented worldwide and holds five patents.<\/p>\n
