The team of the \u201cProf. Lyubomir Andreychin\u201d Institute for Bulgarian Language helped over 100 visitors of different ages to cope with various language „challenges“ related to the use of the Bulgarian language during this year’s Language Fair. The event, which traditionally marks the European Day of Languages in Bulgaria, took place on 27 September between 10:00 and 14:00 in the garden in front of \u201cIvan Vazov\u201d National Theatre.<\/p>\n

The language tasks and games prepared for young and old by the team of \u201cThe written remains. Write correctly!\u201d campaign were not intended to assess the knowledge of Bulgarian language, but to be an occasion for free dialogue between the scientists and the visitors of the Fair as well as an opportunity for people to ask their questions and for the researchers to talk about their work.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor us<\/em>,<\/em> such events are an excellent opportunity to connect with people and promote our activities<\/em>\u201d, Prof. Svetla Koeva, Director of the Institute for Bulgarian Language at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences said.<\/p>\n

Some of the language tasks were related to phraseologisms, recognition of metaphorical patterns and search for polysemy in different contexts. \u201cWe have selected tasks that encourage thinking and the use of research approaches<\/em>\u201d, sen. asst. prof. Dr. Svetlozara Leseva from the Computational Linguistics department of the Institute commented.<\/p>\n

Among the visitors of the Language Fair, there were both well-known and many new faces. But even those who approached timidly at first left the stand of the Institute for Bulgarian Language with a smile, enriched with knowledge and a T-shirt with „The written remains. Write correctly!“ inscription.<\/p>\n

The most inquisitive received as a gift the first copies of the \u201c101 Language Notes\u201d (101 \u0435\u0437\u0438\u043a\u043e\u0432\u0438 \u0431\u0435\u043b\u0435\u0436\u043a\u0438) book. It has been prepared in cooperation between the Institute for Bulgarian Language and the \u201cAz-Buki\u201d National Publishing House for Education and Science and is already on the book market.<\/p>\n
