The Institute of Robotics is celebrating ten years of fruitful collaboration with the Graduate School of Life Sciences and Systems Engineering at Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan. This anniversary was celebrated by Prof. Hiroaki Wagatsuma with a lecture on the achievements of this collaboration. The focus of the long-standing collaborative research has been on experimental approaches in eye-tracking and EEG data analysis for programming intelligent robotic systems.

Applied results obtained by comparing cognitive biometrics in experts with that of untrained individuals in activities such as: automated driving, medical manipulations in robotic surgery and 3 telemedicine, sports, etc. are particularly significant. Some of the results were obtained within the joint project “Cyber-Physical Systems for Pedagogical Rehabilitation in Special Education” CybSPEED funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie programme of the EU. In the framework of this project, nine scientists from IR-BAS visited the Kyushu Institute of Technology to conduct collaborative research. The workshop discussed further collaboration and joint research.

On 26 September, the Institute of Robotics at BAS hosted a seminar on contemporary robotics issues with the participation of scientists from Japan.
