The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences hosted the XII National Geophysical Conference with international participation which was held under the title „New Challenges in Geophysics“ on 29 and 30 September at the \u201cProf. Marin Drinov\u201d Hall. On behalf of the leadership of BAS, the conference was addressed by Corr. Memb. Daniela Jordanova, scientific secretary of the division.<\/p>\n

Over 40 scientists from the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography (NIGGG) \u2013 BAS, the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies – BAS, „St. Ivan Rilski“ University of Mining and Geology, Sofia University \u201cSt. Kliment Ohridski\u201d, the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, as well as guest speakers from Great Britain, Austria and Sweden presented their research in the field of seismology, remote sensing, paleo- and archaeomagnetism and exploration geophysics.<\/p>\n

Results of studies conducted in Bulgaria, different parts of Europe and Antarctica were shown. New methods of exploration, use of modern instrumentation and addressing important societal issues such as pollution studies, ground movements, studies of archaeological sites and mineral deposits were demonstrated.<\/p>\n

The geophysical community occupies an important part of the country’s expertise in the Earth Sciences and has once again proved that it maintains a high level of research and a good capacity to solve important fundamental, engineering and geological problems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
