Historians, archaeologists, and public figures today presented an appeal for the solemn celebration in 2032 of the 1400th anniversary of the founding of the Bulgarian state. The appeal was presented at the National Press Club of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) as part of the \u201c14 Centuries of Bulgaria in Europe\u201d national initiative by the Bulgarian National Television (BNT), the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), and the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) with the support of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe, the undersigned Bulgarian historians and public figures, guided by our duty to preserve and strengthen the historical memory of our people, appeal to the Bulgarian society and the Bulgarian state to mark in the most solemn manner a remarkable anniversary – 1,400 years since the founding of the Bulgarian state. In this endeavor, we are joining the \u201c14 Centuries of Bulgaria in Europe\u201d joint initiative announced by BNT, BTA, and BNR, with the support of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and together we call on the Bulgarian society and the Bulgarian state to celebrate in the most solemn manner a remarkable anniversary \u2013 1,400 years since the founding of the Bulgarian state,\u201d the appeal which was read by Prof. Dr. Plamen Pavlov from the \u201cSt. Cyril and St. Methodius\u201d University of Veliko Tarnovo said.<\/p>\n

Among those attending the event were the president of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, the former president of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, the director general of Bulgarian National Television (BNT), Emil Koshlukov, the director general of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) Milen Mitev, the director general of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Kiril Valchev, and the Rector of Sofia University Prof. Dr. Georgi Valchev.<\/p>\n

BAS continues to stand behind the \u201c14 Centuries of Bulgaria in Europe\u201d initiative, initially supported by Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, the President of the Academy Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva said at presenting the appeal. Corr. Memb. Slavcheva emphasized the importance of continuity and announced that BAS would support the initiative with its scientific expertise through scientists from various institutes of the Academy. \u201cRestoring national dignity and the memory of how old the Bulgarian state and how resilient the Bulgarian people is, is something that deserves our support, and we will work in this direction. The initiative is wonderful,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

At the event, Prof Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, pointed out that there was nothing more natural than the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences being the first institution to support the \u201c14 Centuries of Bulgaria in Europe\u201d initiative because from a historical point of view it was the oldest national organization, established before the Liberation of Bulgaria.<\/p>\n
