An exhibition by contemporary Bulgarian artist Stanislav Bojankov entitled \u201cPresentiment of a Portrait\u201d opened at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The exhibition is the second in the \u201cContemporary Art at BAS\u201d series and was initiated by the chairman of the Academy’s General Assembly, Prof. Vassil Kirov.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea for this project arose after the decision by Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, during his term as president of the Academy to create a collection of works of art,\u201d Prof. Kirov said. He added that up to four exhibitions of significant artists would be held within a year. \u201cIn addition to the existing collection of classical Bulgarian art, it is good for BAS to give contemporary Bulgarian art its rightful place. This will allow us to create another collection for the Academy. The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is not only a temple of science but also of the arts and the Bulgarian spirit,\u201d Prof. Vassil Kirov said.<\/p>\n

Prof. Julian Revalski congratulated the chairman of the General Assembly on the idea and recalled that, on his initiative, a collection of 11 works of fine art by members of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences had been assembled. The works had been presented for the first time at the end of last year and were to be exhibited again. \u201cIt is appropriate for BAS to have its own collection and to present it to the public on a regular basis. There have been many exhibitions by emerging artists here in this foyer but this is the first time that established authors are being presented,\u201d Prof. Revalski also said.<\/p>\n

Curator Diana Draganova-Stier introduced Stanislav Bojankov and the works included in \u201cPremonition of a Portrait.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWith the help of various graphic techniques, Stanislav Bojankov creates iconic images that are in a peculiar connection with the mystical urge for self-reflection and entering the world of perceptions and senses,\u201d Diana Draganova-Stier said.<\/p>\n

Stanislav Bo<\/em>j<\/em>ankov, one of the most prominent names in Bulgarian graphic art, was born in 1966 in Kyustendil. He completed his master’s degree at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (Poland) under the supervision of Prof. Andrzej Pi<\/em>ecz<\/em>. He works in the fields of painting, drawing, graphic art, and installation. He has participated in more than 400 exhibitions (biennials, triennials, thematic projects, solo exhibitions, etc.), including in Philadelphia, Krakow, Taipei, Seoul, New York, Ljubljana, Sofia, Istanbul, Luxembourg, Berlin, Paris, Shanghai, Brussels, London, etc. and has received 45 international and national awards. His works are exhibited in over 50 public collections, museums, and libraries.<\/em><\/p>\n
