A bust-monument to Academician Blagovest Sendov was officially unveiled at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS.\u00a0 To honor the memory of this exceptional scientist, public figure, and visionary, the official ceremony was attended by Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev, BAS President Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, BAS President Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy (2016-2024 term of office), relatives, friends, and representatives of the academic community.<\/p>\n

Academician Sendov was the first director of the International Center for Mathematical Sciences<\/a> at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS, said Director Corr. Memb. Peter Boyvalenkov, adding that it was no coincidence that the monument was placed in front of his office.<\/p>\n

I believe that the work of Acad. Sendov will be continued in a worthy manner and that mathematical science will remain one of the symbols of Bulgarian science, said the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva.<\/p>\n

The director of the International Center for Mathematical Sciences Prof Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, recalled the influence that Academician Sendov had on Bulgarian mathematics through the school he created. After the unveiling of the monument to Acad. Blagovest Sendov in front of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University \u201cSt. Kliment Ohridski,\u201d sculptor Krasimir Angelov created this bust-monument as a gift, announced Prof. Revalski.<\/p>\n

The event is an expression of deep gratitude for the work and enormous contribution of Academician Sendov (1932\u20132020) \u2013 a world-renowned Bulgarian mathematician, dedicated innovator and teacher, prominent statesman and respected public figure, rector of Sofia University \u201cSt. Kliment Ohridski\u201d, President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the National Assembly, one of the founders and first director of the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences.
