A commemorative academic session marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprisin, featuring scholars from the Institute for Historical Studies at BAS was held today at Sofia University \u201cSt. Kliment Ohridski.\u201d Representatives of the historical community joined forces to organize an academic discussion in two sessions dedicated to this landmark anniversary.<\/p>\n

\u201cInitiated jointly by some of the oldest institutions in modern Bulgaria, this session undoubtedly demonstrates the enduring memory and deep reverence for the immortal feat of the Bulgarians who, sharing the modern European spiritual and social values of the 19th century, selflessly declared their aspiration to build their own Bulgarian state,\u201d said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadya Filipova, Director of the Institute for Historical Studies of BAS.<\/p>\n

\u201cDistinguished Bulgarians, including members of the Bulgarian Learned Society, ensured that the April Uprising would not be forgotten and won the hearts of Europeans who were free in spirit and conviction. In April 1876, the Bulgarians laid the foundations of modern-day Bulgaria, and the reverence for their self-sacrifice is one of the few examples that today demonstrate the unity of Bulgarians both in the homeland and beyond its borders during years of trials and dramatic changes,\u201d she added in her welcoming remarks.<\/p>\n

During the academic forum, Assoc. Prof. Antoaneta Kirilova, DSc, from the Institute for Historical Studies of BAS presented the topic \u201cA \u2018Fictitious Uprising\u2019 or Days of Tragedy: events in the fourth revolutionary district in the spring of 1876 according to the diplomatic reports of Nayden Gerov.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sofia University \u201cSt. Kliment Ohridski,\u201d the Archives State Agency,\u201d the \u201cGeorgi Stoykov Rakovski\u201d Military Academy,<\/em> \u201cSt. St. Cyril and Methodius\u201d University<\/em> of Veliko Tarnovo<\/em>, the<\/em> \u201cSt<\/em>s. Cyril<\/em>l and Methodius\u201d National Library<\/em>, and the Institute <\/em>for Historical <\/em>Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences jointly commemorated this significant event in Bulgarian history. <\/em><\/p>\n
