The XVII National school for doctoral students and young researchers in the social sciences, titled \u201cParticipation in open science: contributing to accessible knowledge and addressing complex global challenges\u201d was held from May 11 to 13 in a hybrid format – in Varna and online. The event was organized by the Institute for Population and Human Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IPHS<\/a>).<\/p>\n

A total of 92 doctoral students and young researchers from 20 academic institutions across the country and from MIT University in Skopje participated in the School: the Institute for Population and Human Studies, the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, and the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with the Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia University \u201cSt. Kliment Ohridski,\u201d \u201cProf. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov\u201d Medical University \u2013 Varna, Medical University \u2013 Sofia, Medical University \u2013 Pleven, \u201cSt. Cyril and St. Methodius\u201d University of Veliko Tarnovo, \u201cPaisii Hilendarski\u201d University of Plovdiv, \u201cNeofit Rilski\u201d South-West University, New Bulgarian University, University of National and World Economy, \u201cGeorgi S. Rakovski\u201d Military Academy, \u201cDimitar A. Tsenov\u201d Academy of Economics \u2013 Svishtov, MIT University Skopje, Macedonia, National Center of Public Health and Analyses, \u201cChernorizets Hrabar\u201d Varna Free University, Burgas Free University, Technical University \u2013 Varna, and the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria \u2013 Blagoevgrad Branch.<\/p>\n

A total of 61 papers were presented, organized into 10 scientific sections: \u201cSocio-political processes in Bulgaria and around the world,\u201d \u201cPersonality and interpersonal processes,\u201d \u201cStress, trauma, and psychotherapy,\u201d \u201cOpen science and sociocultural identities,\u201d \u201cOrganizational effectiveness: employee support, management skills, artificial intelligence,\u201d \u201cHealth issues: prevention, treatment, health services,\u201d \u201cArtificial intelligence in psychological and social research,\u201d \u201cDigital existence: transformation and risks,\u201d \u201cFundamentals of psychology and psychoanalysis,\u201d and \u201cFactors in child and adolescent development.\u201d<\/p>\n

The school also included three educational panels aimed at developing the practical knowledge and skills of young researchers: a lecture titled \u201cHistorical demography as a path to understanding population development in the past\u201d (Assoc. Prof. Daniela Angelova, IPHS-BAS), a workshop \u201cTriangulation of perspectives on parental leave in Bulgaria. Results from an empirical study using qualitative methods\u201d (Assoc. Prof. Elitsa Dimitrova, PhD, IPHS-BAS) and a workshop \u201cIntroduction to regression analysis\u201d (sen. asst. prof. Dr. Svetoslav Bliznashki IPHS-BAS).<\/p>\n

The school provides an opportunity for the convergence of research in the social sciences through the lens of an interdisciplinary approach and open science as well as for the practical exchange of knowledge and ideas.<\/p>\n
