Academician Vasil Gyuzelev was awarded the Ministry of Culture\u2019s highest honor, the \u201cGolden Century\u201d (Zlaten vek) award (a necklace and a certificate). Minister Evtim Miloshev presented the awards at a ceremony held on May 20 in the Ballroom of the National Gallery \u2013 \u201cThe Palace.\u201d The Ministry of Culture\u2019s \u201cGolden Century\u201d awards were announced in honor of the upcoming Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and of the Slavonic literature. A total of 40 artists and public figures from various fields of culture and the arts were honored.<\/p>\n

Acad. Vasil Gyuzelev is one of Bulgaria\u2019s most prominent historians, medievalists, and Byzantinists whose research places the Bulgarian Middle Ages within the global context of European history.<\/p>\n

Among this year\u2019s honorees is also Prof. Alexander Donev, DSc, member of the \u201cScreen Arts\u201d department at the Institute of Art Studies at BAS. He was awarded the \u201cGolden Age\u201d \u2013 Seal of Tsar Simeon the Great \u2013 in gold, along with a certificate.<\/p>\n
