Corresponding Member Alexandre Kostov delivered a plenary presentation at an international forum organized by the Institute of Global and Area Studies at Capital Normal University in Beijing. The conference took place on May 23 and 24, 2026, in the Chinese capital with the participation of over 100 scholars from three continents. The main focus was on Southeast Europe – a region in which the aforementioned institute is the leading research center in the country. Alongside numerous Chinese participants, 23 scholars from the Balkan countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Slovenia), Germany, and the United States also presented papers at the forum. In his introductory report, Corr. Memb. Alexandre Kostov presented the current state of Balkan studies and the prospects for their development. He was also entrusted with the closing remarks at the conference. He delivered a lecture to faculty and students on the economic development of the Balkans in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In his meetings with representatives of Chinese academic institutions, Corr. Memb. Alexandre Kostov introduced them to the activities of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and, above all, to the institutes of the humanities and social sciences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
