The President of BAS, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, received Bulgaria\u2019s Ambassador to Croatia, H.E. Iva Kruleva, at the Academy today. The meeting was attended by Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, DSc, Vice-President of BAS, and Prof. Neli Koseva, PhD, Scientific Secretary-General of BAS.<\/p>\n

The main topic of discussion was scientific cooperation between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) and the opportunities for strengthening this cooperation. Ambassador Kruleva and Corr. Memb. Slavcheva agreed that the re-signing of the bilateral agreement between BAS and HAZU would help to consolidate this cooperation. A suitable occasion for this will arise in 2027 which marks the 30th anniversary of the beginning of scientific cooperation between the two academies.<\/p>\n

Cultural exchange initiatives were also discussed, one of which is the presentation of \u201cThe April Uprising of 1876 in the destiny of the members of the Bulgarian Learned Society\u201d exhibition to Bulgarian schools in Croatia. To mark the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis of Assisi, at the suggestion of Prof. Moutafov, possibilities will be explored for displaying in Bulgaria some of the saint\u2019s relics which are kept in Franciscan centres in Croatia.<\/p>\n

This was the first meeting between the President of BAS and our Ambassador to Croatia at which both sides expressed their readiness for fruitful future cooperation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
