An international conference on earthquake engineering, attended by the Director of the Geological Institute of BAS, Prof. Svetoslav Georgiev, took place from 26 to 31 July in Beijing. The forum marked the 50th anniversary of the devastating earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale in Tangshan, China.<\/p>\n

Prof. Svetoslav Georgiev took part in the event at the invitation of the organisers. As part of the programme, he held working meetings with the management of the China Earthquake Administration, with the management of the Institute of Geology under the China Earthquake Administration, and the heads of the geochronology laboratories at the Institute of Geology, and visited the geotechnical and rock mechanics laboratories at Beijing University of Technology.<\/p>\n

The contacts established between the Geological Institute of BAS<\/a> and their Chinese colleagues lay the foundations for the successful development of future joint projects.<\/p>\n
