INRNE-BAS and the US Department of Energy conduct a successful radiation safety training

The Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (INRNE-BAS) hosted a key final training on the search and security of radioactive sources, carried out in close cooperation with the US Department of Energy. The event, which took place on 6 June, was part of a global effort to enhance the safety, control and safe disposal of radioactive materials worldwide. The training brought together leading experts from INRNE-BAS, their counterparts from Slovakia, as well as experts from various institutions involved in safety when handling radioactive materials. BAS scientist with prestigious film award

The Grand Prix of the "The Golden Linden" International Film Festival for New European Cinema 2025 has gone to the film "Before I Forget" (2024, director Stanislav Donchev). Co-writer and co-producer of the film is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teodora Stoilova-Doncheva from the Screen Arts department of the Institute of Art Studies, BAS (IAS). Besides being a professional screenwriter and film critic, Assoc. Prof. Stoilova-Doncheva is an established researcher of documentary cinema, author of a number of theoretical works and several monographs. She has participated in a number of collective projects of IAS-BAS and has helped to establish the Academy as a place for the realization of talented and young professionals who have an attractive presence in the public space in Bulgaria and Europe.

The Institute of Oceanology – BAS celebrates the World Ocean Day

The Institute of Oceanology - BAS organized an educational event in the Sea Garden of Burgas on the occasion of the World Ocean Day on 8 June. The initiative brought together scientists, children, students and nature lovers at the Flora Exposition Centre. The message of the event was related to the need for a responsible attitude towards the oceans - the key to the future of our planet. Visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with modern oceanographic instruments used by scientists in their research as well as to see under the microscope and through preparations a small part of the living world of the Black Sea. Science and Technology Fair – curiosity is the engine of knowledge

The Institute of Solid State Physics - BAS and Science Me Up organized a science and technology fair on June 7 at the Scientific Complex 2 of BAS. The event attracted the attention of more than 1500 visitors - schoolchildren, parents, students, teachers, researchers and friends. They participated in lectures, lab visits and pupil hands-on workshops. The organizers of the event - Assoc. Scientists from Shanghai Jiao Tong University visit BAS

A delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University visited the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on June 5. The university is among the most prestigious higher education institutions in China as well as among the top 100 universities in the world, specializing in the teaching and development of engineering and STEM. The Vice-President of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov presented the main directions of the Academy's activities and the current mechanisms for the implementation of bilateral cooperation. The successful projects and initiatives between scientists from both countries were discussed by Prof. Denitsa Borisova and Prof. Ventzeslav Dimitrov from the Space Research and Technology Institute and Prof. Petar Nojarov from the Climate, Atmosphere and Water Research Institute. Public lecture by Dr. Atanas Popov on the Euratom Community

A public lecture by Dr. Atanas Popov, a specialist in European law, was held today at BAS. Dr. Atanas Popov introduced the audience to the history of the European Communities, focusing on the sociological and legal aspects of nuclear energy regulation in a comparative national and international context. The existence and activities of the European Atomic Energy Community are not widely known despite the enormous current interest in nuclear energy. Bulgaria is one of the Euratom member countries that intends to increase its nuclear investments. The lecture explained in a broader sense the functioning and sociological aspects of this part of European law in view of the growing challenges in the field which were mostly of an economic nature.
