Exhibition at BAS of first images with the new 1.5-m telescope at Rozhen

An exhibition of images of cosmic objects taken with the new 1.5-m telescope at the National Astronomical Observatory (NAO) Rozhen was opened at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The telescope operates in semi-automatic mode and can be controlled remotely, said the director of the Institute of Astronomy with NAO Prof. Evgeni Semkov. He introduced the author of the photographs - astronomer Sen. Asst. Prof. Milen Minev, PhD. The exposition includes photographs of the planet Jupiter and of stars, nebulae, galaxies, star clusters and formations of interstellar gas and dust such as the famous "Pillars of Creation" in the Eagle Nebula of the Serpens constellation. BAS honoured the Institute of Art Studies with a GOLDEN plaquette on the occasion of its 75th anniversary

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences honored the Institute of Art Studies with a GOLDEN plaquette at a ceremony held at the “Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall. The award is for outstanding contributions in scientific and applied research, for significant creative achievements in the field of the arts and on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of its establishment. The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, presented the plaquette to the Director of the Institute, Prof. Joana Spassova-Dikova. 120 years since the birth of John Atanasoff

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences celebrated the 120th anniversary of the birth of John Atanasoff, who created the first digital electronic computer, with a scientific session held at the “Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall of the Academy. The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, opened the event by stressing that John Atanasoff's invention was undoubtedly the greatest in technological terms of the 20th century. Meeting of Prof. Revalski with H.E. Olesya Ilashchuk

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will participate in the organization of events on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Ukraine. This was agreed at a meeting at the Academy by the President Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, and the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria H.E. Olesya Ilashchuk. At the meeting, the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Prof. Julian Revalski presented the long-standing cooperation between scientists from both countries. During her visit, H.E. Ilashchuk expressed her gratitude to BAS for the assistance the Academy provides to Ukrainian scientists and their families who have sought refuge in Bulgaria after the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Establishment of a National DNA Barcoding Consortium

On 27.09.2023 at the “Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was held the National Symposium "Establishment of a Bulgarian Consortium on DNA Barcoding - Bulgarian Barcode of Life". The event was organized by an Initiative Committee including seven institutions: Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics - BAS, Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research - BAS, National Museum of Natural History - BAS, Faculty of Biology of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", University of Forestry, Agricultural Academy and the “Pensoft” science publishing house. The lectures “Slavic World” by Prof. Shishmanov presented in Freiburg

Prof. Revalski, Full Member of BAS, guest at the event On the eve of the Independence Day of Bulgaria, a symposium dedicated to the distinguished Bulgarian scientist, politician and public figure Professor Ivan Shishmanov (1862-1928) was held at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg, Germany. The occasion was the publication of Professor Ivan Shishmanov's lectures "Slavic World", read 100 years ago in the auditoriums of the famous German university and preserved today in the Scientific Archives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
