17th scientific session “Young Scientists in the World of Polymers”

The 17th scientific session “Young Scientists in the World of Polymers” was held on June 4, 2026, at the Institute of Polymers – BAS. It is organized annually in June by the Institute of Polymers – BAS and provides a platform for young scientists, students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers engaged in scientific research in the field of polymers and other scientific areas involving the study and application of polymer materials. Assoc. Prof. Blagoy Burdin, PhD, from IEES-BAS participates as an expert at the Green Transition Forum 6.0

This year’s edition of Green Transition Forum 6.0: Europe’s Next Chapter dedicated to the challenges and opportunities of achieving the green transition in Europe is taking place from June 1 to 5 at the Sofia Event Center. The President of BAS attends the ALLEA General Assembly in Warsaw

The President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, participated in the 2026 General Assembly of the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities (ALLEA) which took place on May 26–29 in Warsaw. This year, the General Assembly was hosted by the Polish Academy of Sciences. During the meeting, the Action Plan for the implementation of the ALLEA Strategy for 2025–2030 was presented which aims to operationalize the organization’s strategic document as well as a report on deepening the partnership between ALLEA and the European Academies’ Science Advisory Council (EASAC). A methodology for geothermal surveys has been developed

A team of geologists and geophysicists from the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography (NIGGG-BAS), the Geological Institute (GI-BAS), the University of Mining and Geology (MGU) and Sofia University (SU) has developed, as part of the “GeothermPro” project, an integrated methodology for the accelerated exploration and assessment of the potential of geothermal areas. It is based on the combined application of modern geological, hydrogeological, and geophysical methods. The main objective of the development is to create a scientifically sound and practically applicable approach for locating and assessing promising geothermal structures while reducing the risks and uncertainties associated with future drilling and engineering activities. The President of BAS attends an EASAC Council Meeting in Nicosia

The President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, took part in the first meeting for 2026 of the Council of the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC) which was held on May 21–22 in Nicosia, Republic of Cyprus. The meeting discussed the initiative to establish a closer academic partnership between EASAC and the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities (ALLEA) which aimed to strengthen their positions on the European stage. IICT honors PhD students for their outstanding research and publication achievements

Awards for outstanding research and publication achievements have been presented to doctoral students at the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of BAS (IICT) during a ceremony held today. This is the first time such an award has been established with the aim of encouraging and recognizing young researchers at the institute. The chair of the awards committee, Prof. Stanislav Harizanov, expressed his gratitude to the doctoral students who participated in the competition and their academic advisors. With best wishes for continued success in science, the awards were presented by Corresponding Member Margenov to: Miryana Raykovska, supervised by Prof. Ivan Georgiev, for her work on the creation of digital twins using high-resolution microstructural models obtained through industrial computed tomography.
