A lecture on Sts. Cyril and Methodius by Dr. Totka Grigorova (CMRC) in Messina

  On 03.04.2025, Dr. Totka Grigorova from the Cyrillo-Methodian Research Center at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences gave a lecture on "The Images of Cyril and Methodius - Memory Through the Centuries" to students and lecturers at the University of Messina (Italy). The seminar was organized by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marco Scarpa from the Department of Ancient and Modern Civilizations of the University of Messina.  The lecture was supported by the ERASMUS+ programme. Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev holds a meeting with scientists from BAS

They have discussed the possibilities of support from the Ministry of Innovation and Growth for a Bulgarian development on laser fusion generation Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev has visited the Institute of Solid State Physics at BAS (ISSP-BAS). He has got acquainted with the research conducted in the "Metal vapour lasers" laboratory at the Institute founded by Acad. Nikola Sabotinov. The wide range of laser systems allows the study of high-speed processes at the level of molecules and atoms as well as analyses for the purposes of materials science, medicine, biology and for the improvement of existing and the creation of new powerful copper bromide vapour lasers. A young scientist from BAS has been elected as a representative in the Global Young Academy

For the first time, Bulgaria has a representative in the Global Young Academy (GYA). This is Asst. Prof. Dr. Alexandra Milanova from the Institute of Balkan Studies with the Center of Thracology at BAS. She has been selected among hundreds of candidates from all over the world for her high academic achievements, international appearances and community involvement. The official inauguration ceremony will be held in the framework of the Academy's Annual General Meeting in June 2025 in Hyderabad, India. The Global Young Academy was established in 2010 and unites 200 young scientists from six continents. Its main objective is to bring together and encourage talented young researchers to participate in decision-making at international, regional and national levels to address global societal challenges.

The role of science diplomacy in a changing world

On 25 March UNESCO organized a high-level conference on science diplomacy in which the Bulgarian delegation was led by Corr. Memb. Evdokia Pasheva, Vice-President of BAS. The main topics discussed at the conference were related to the science diplomacy of the 20th century, its role in promoting openness and security of science, building equitable collaborations for the development and responsible application of new technologies and ensuring peaceful use of shared resources. Corr. Memb. Pasheva also took part in the Global Ministerial Dialogue on 26 March during which issues such as science diplomacy in a changing world, science diplomacy for shared natural and scientific resources, science diplomacy in times of crises, in a world with disruptive technologies, and advancing open and secure science were again discussed. Icarus Award for Prof. Nikolay Iordanov from the Institute of Art Studies of BAS

On World Theatre Day, 27 March, the "Icarus" National Performing Arts Awards of the Union of Bulgarian Actors were presented.  At a ceremony at the National Theatre, Prof. Nikolay Iordanov from the Theatre Department of the Institute of Art Studies of BAS received the award in the category of critical text for the book "The Bulgarian Dramaturgical Canon. Forming, Rearranging, Rereading" („Българският драматургичен канон. Формиране, пренареждане, препрочитане“), Sofia: Institute of Art Studies & Homo Ludens Foundation, 2024. The prize was awarded by the guild of theatre scholars and playwrights. Nikolay Iordanov's monograph aims to highlight those authors and titles in Bulgarian dramaturgy that have long-term validity in different historical situations and for diverse social groups. Working meeting between representatives of Bulgarian science and state administration and the European Space Agency: “Space for security and defence”

On March 26, 2025, at the Bulgarian Defence Institute "Prof. Tsvetan Lazarov", a working meeting was held on the topic: Space for Security and Defence between representatives of Bulgarian science and state administration and the European Space Agency - Major General Pascal Legai - Senior Security Adviser to ESA DG Director General’s Services and Dr. Christopher Topping - Head of the ESA Civil Security from Space (CSS) programme.
