BAS hosts international conference on ecological civilization and sustainable development

  The “Philosophical Foundations, Cultural Dimensions and Societal Values of Ecological Civilization and Sustainable Development” international conference under the auspices of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IPS-BAS) is taking place from 7 to 10 October in Sofia. The opening ceremony took place on 7 October at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of the Academy. During the opening ceremony, welcoming remarks were made by H.E. Bulgarian scientists develop surface coatings and alloys for aviation and aerospace technologies

Innovative surface coatings with potential for wide application in the field of mechanical engineering and high technology are being developed by scientists from the Institute of Electronics of BAS. Researchers have improved the mechanical properties of surface structures made of titanium with boron and carbon added to it. The resulting new coatings have very high surface hardness values as well as high wear resistance which opens up a range of new practical applications for these materials. The development is part of the “Centre of Competence for Intelligent Mechatronic, Eco- and Energy-Saving Systems and Technologies” project which involves a team from the Institute of Electronics. Linguistic data for the development of language technologies and AI-based tools discussed at BAS

The importance of linguistic data for the development of language technologies and tools based on artificial intelligence is discussed by experts from Bulgarian technology companies, public administration and academia at a seminar held today at “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Broadway musicals on the stage of BAS

Iconic musicals came to life on the stage of “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall at BAS. Students and PhD students from the “Pop and Jazz Singing”, “Operetta and Musical” and “Music and Stage Direction” majors from the acting class of Prof. Violeta Gorcheva from the Vocal Faculty of the National Music Academy gave a concert-performance entitled “Sing with Broadway!” on October 6. In front of a crowded hall, the young artists performed parts from the “Chicago”, “The Greatest Showman”, “Les Misérables” and “Welcome to Burlesque” musicals. Their performances presented also attractive choreography including off-stage performances. Corr. Memb. Pasheva attends the award ceremony for young talents in the field of informatics

The Vice-President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evdokia Pasheva attended the ceremony of awarding the winners of the John Atanasoff Award for 2025. The presidential initiative was held for the twenty-third time, and this year the awards were given to young talents in the field of informatics and information technology. BAS President participates in Kyoto forum on Science and Technology in Society

  The President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, participated in the 18th edition of the “Academy of Science Presidents' Meeting” which is organized annually by the “Science Council of Japan” within the framework of the “Science and Technology in Society” forum (STS forum). “Innovation-promoting approaches to science funding” was the topic of discussion for this year's Meeting. Each participant was given the opportunity to share their institution's experience with securing funding for promising research in priority areas, and the positives and negatives of existing mechanisms for approving research projects for funding were discussed.
