BAS awards young scientists for May 24

The “Prof. Marin Drinov" prize for young scientists and "Ivan Evstratiev Geshov" for youngest scientists of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences were awarded during the solemn assembly on the occasion of May 24 which was held at the Academy. Seventeen young scientists were awarded for their achievements. The President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva presented the awards. I am happy to be at BAS because it is the institution that embodies the spirit of knowledge and culture, an institution not only with traditions but also on which we rely to live in a better future, Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev said in his address on the occasion. BAS celebrates the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and of the Slavic literature

A solemn assembly on the occasion of May 24 was held today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The Vice-President of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov opened the celebration in the "Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall with an excerpt in Old Bulgarian from "On the Letters" by Chernorizets Hrabar. The President of the Academy Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva greeted the scientists and guests on the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and of the Slavic literature. Prof. Vassil Kirov elected a regular member of the European scientific academy Academia Europaea

Prof. DSc Vassil Kirov has been elected as a Member of Academia Europaea.  Academia Europaea was established in 1988 and is the Pan-European Academy for the Humanities, Letters and Sciences. Membership is by invitation only. The aim of the Academia Europaea is the development and dissemination of scientific excellence in the humanities, law, economic, social and political sciences, mathematics, medicine and all branches of natural and technological sciences anywhere in the world for the public benefit and for the advancement of the education of the population of all ages in the above fields in Europe. The Academy has 5500 members, including 88 Nobel Laureates. There are eleven members from Bulgaria. Forum in Zagreb discusses Bulgarian-Croatian cooperation

The Bulgarian-Croatian cooperation in the field of history and humanities was presented at a forum held on 19 May at the National Library in Zagreb. The event was attended by Dr. Irina Ognyanova from the Institute of Balkan Studies of BAS.  At the forum, the "Croats and Bulgarians. Diplomacy, Politics, Culture and Science" collection published by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts was also presented. The long-standing cooperation between the academies of sciences of the two countries was discussed during the event. For more than 28 years, a joint project between BAS and the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts has been going on within the framework of which forums on Bulgarian-Croatian relations have been organised in both countries and the reports published in [...]

15 years “For Women in Science”: exhibition presents the achievements of Bulgarian women researchers

An open-air exhibition on the Lovers' Bridge at the National Palace of Culture marked the 15th anniversary of the “For Women in Science” National Programme. The event acknowledged 39 outstanding Bulgarian women scientists who had been honoured over the years with the prestigious award presented in partnership between the National Commission for UNESCO - Bulgaria, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski” and L'Oréal Bulgaria. Among the recipients of this prestigious recognition are 18 women scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences whose work and achievements have contributed to the prestige of Bulgarian science worldwide. Over 60 researchers from 14 countries discuss Christian missions in the European Middle Ages

The International Scientific Conference on "Christian Missions in the European Middle Ages and their Intellectual Heritage. History, Notions, Ideas" has been opened at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences today. More than 60 participants from 14 countries, representing 40 world Slavic and historical scientific centres, are taking part in the scientific forum. The Cyrillo-Methodian Research Centre of BAS (CMRC) is the organiser of the event, which is held in the days preceding the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education, culture and Slavonic literature.
