Bulgarian participation in the “My thesis in 180 seconds” competition

Sylvia Varhoshkova, PhD student at the Institute of Molecular Biology at BAS, represented Bulgaria at the 11th International Final of the competition “My Thesis in 180 Seconds” which took place on October 2 in Bucharest, Romania. After winning the first prize at the national final of the competition which took place on 28 May this year at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS, Sylvia Varhoshkova presented her dissertation topic “Role and dynamics of FET proteins at sites of complex DNA damage” to an international audience. BAS celebrates 140 years of the Unification with the means of art

The “Unification - 140 Years Later” documentary film was presented at an academic event held on October 2 at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. The film is based on a script by Dimitar Stoyanovich and directed by Lachezar Avramov. The academic event was opened by the Vice-President of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov. “Skills for Labour Markets in the Green and Digital Transition” international conference

The international conference "Skills for Labour Markets in the Green and Digital Transition", part of the European research project SkiLMeeT (https://skilmeet.eu/) which brings together 70 participants from 23 countries is taking place in the central building of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences - BAS. The event is focusing on key questions for the future: how green and digital transformation are changing jobs, education and the skills needed. Over 30 presentations will be made over the two days, with academics and experts discussing solutions to the skills shortage and ways to better support workers and employers. Over 40 scientists present their research at a geophysical conference at BAS

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences hosted the XII National Geophysical Conference with international participation which was held under the title "New Challenges in Geophysics" on 29 and 30 September at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall. On behalf of the leadership of BAS, the conference was addressed by Corr. Memb. Daniela Jordanova, scientific secretary of the division. Bulgarian-Japanese seminar at the Institute of Robotics

On 26 September, the Institute of Robotics at BAS hosted a seminar on contemporary robotics issues with the participation of scientists from Japan. The Institute of Robotics is celebrating ten years of fruitful collaboration with the Graduate School of Life Sciences and Systems Engineering at Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan. This anniversary was celebrated by Prof. Hiroaki Wagatsuma with a lecture on the achievements of this collaboration. The focus of the long-standing collaborative research has been on experimental approaches in eye-tracking and EEG data analysis for programming intelligent robotic systems. Bulgaria participates in the 37th session of the International Co-ordinating Council of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme

The 37th session of the International Co-ordinating Council (MAB-ICC) of UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme was held in Hangzhou, China, from 26 to 28 September 2025. Bulgaria, which is a full member of this highest governing body of the Programme, was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ina Aneva - Scientific Secretary of the Biodiversity, Bioresources and Ecology Division, elected by the UNESCO General Conference for a four-year term. The Hangzhou session brought together representatives from countries around the world to chart the future of the Man and the Biosphere Programme, discuss strategic priorities and consider proposals for new biosphere reserves.
