First assessments of the situation regarding the incidents with the Russian tankers near the Kerch Strait

An international group of scientists from the Hereon Research Centre, part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres and the Institute of Oceanology at BAS, are working to clarify the situation with the pollution of the Black Sea following the accident with Russian tankers carrying fuel oil.  The accident was caused by a powerful sea storm resulting in one of the tankers splitting and spilling fuel oil. Prof. August Ivanov is inscribed in the Golden Book of Bulgarian Discoverers and Inventors

Prof. Dr. August Ivanov, Director of the Institute of Robotics of BAS, is listed in the Golden Book of Bulgarian Discoverers and Inventors. He is the only scientist to be awarded the highest distinction by the Patent Office for 2024. The President of the Patent Office Olya Dimitrova announced the name of Prof. Ivanov at an official ceremony held today at the Central Patent Library. Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Dr. David Sukalinski presented the award to Prof. Ivanov who worked in the field of robotics, sensorics, artificial intelligence, nano and micro technologies. The scientist is part of teams that have developed for the first time a new generation of magnetic field sensors - Hall sensors with a maximally simplified design and planar magnetoresistance. [...]

“Animated Heritage” Annual Awards of the Institute of Art Studies – BAS for 2024

The film director and screenwriter Prof. Georgi Djulgerov and artist Alzek Misheff are the winners of the awards The Institute of Art Studies at BAS presented its annual Animated Heritage Awards for a special contribution to the creative interpretation of the traditions and values of Bulgarian and world cultural heritage in a contemporary work of art. In the Screen Arts category, Prof. Georgi Djulgerov, film director and screenwriter, on the occasion of his 80th anniversary, and in the "Fine Arts" category the artist Alzek Misheff for his overall work were distinguished. The Amazing Vietnam – official opening of an exhibition at the National Museum of Natural History at BAS

A temporary exhibition "The Amazing Vietnam" dedicated to the joint Bulgarian-Vietnamese research on the biodiversity of Vietnam, which had began in 1975, was opened by the Deputy Director of the Museum Prof. Stoyan Beshkov on 12 December at the National Museum of Natural History of BAS. Official guests of the event were Prof. Vu Quang Manh from Hoa Binh University in Hanoi and Assoc. Prof. Ina Aneva, Scientific Secretary of the Biodiversity, Bioresources and Ecology Division at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Assoc. Prof. Nikolay Simov read a congratulatory address from H.E.
