“St. Paisius of Hilendar” State Award

The Vice-President of BAS, Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, was the chairman of the commission. Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov presented the “St. Paisius of Hilendar” State Award to Prof. Hristo Yotsov at a ceremony held today in the Granite Hall of the Council of Ministers. This year's winner was selected by a commission at the Ministry of Culture headed by Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, Vice-President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. “The award, established at the beginning of our century, has so far been presented mainly to masters of the word, or more generally to contemporary writers or scholars. Dr. Angel Zlatkov from IBSCT-BAS awarded the “Danubius” Young Scientist Award

At a ceremony in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Angel Zlatkov from the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was awarded the “Danubius” Young Scientist Award of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research of the Republic of Austria and the Institute for Danube Region and Central Europe. Introduced in 2014, the “Danubius” Award seeks to highlight the scientific work and talent of young researchers and enhance the visibility of the scientific community in the region. International conference marking the 75th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights

An international conference marking the 75th anniversary of the signing of the European Convention on Human Rights was held at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The forum was organized by the Institute for State and Law of BAS. “Angel Kanchev” University of Ruse celebrates its 80th anniversary

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of “Angel Kanchev” University of Ruse, a series of events were held between November 10 and 12, 2025. The motto of the celebrations in Ruse was “80 years facing knowledge, youth, and the future.” Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, Vice-President of BAS, took part in the solemn assembly-concert. BAS awards Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, with a Medal of Distinction

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences awarded Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, with the “Medal of Distinction of the President of BAS” at a ceremony held at the Academy on November 12. The President of the Academy, Corr. Memb. The Order of Academic Palms of the Republic of France

The French Minister of Education has conferred the Order of Academic Palms of the Republic of France (L'ordre des Palmes académiques, grade de chevalier) for 2025 upon Prof. Roumiana Preshlenova from the Institute of Balkan Studies with Centre of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. This is one of the highest distinctions, testifying to France's recognition of her contribution to the French-Bulgarian cooperation in the field of university education and scientific research.
