Celebration of the 45th Anniversary of the Central Laboratory of Applied Physics

The solemn celebration on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Central Laboratory of Applied Physics (CLAP) of BAS was held on April 4 in Plovdiv. Honorary silver plaquette on behalf of the leadership and congratulatory address on behalf of the BAS President Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, was presented by the Vice-President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evdokia Pasheva. The Central Laboratory of Applied Physics participates in the implementation of many national projects together with universities and institutes of BAS. It is a welcome partner in international teams together with scientific organisations in Greece, Austria and Canada, the congratulatory address said. Presentation of the new book “Macedonia: History and Culture from Antiquity to Today”

Premiere of the new book in two volumes "Macedonia: History and Culture from Antiquity to Today", published by the Prof. Marin Drinov Publishing House of BAS took place on 2 April at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The book was created by scientists from several institutes and universities, said Acad. Vassil Nikolov who thanked all 35 authors of the two-volume book as well as the academic publishing house. He stressed that the publication was created under the Academy's programme for monographic studies and collections dedicated to the history and culture of the Bulgarian diaspora outside the country's political borders. Scientists from BAS gather at a forum to fight fake science

A meeting of the Forum for Combating Pseudoscience on "Fake Science and the Fight against it" was held on 28 March in the "Prof. Marin Drinov" conference hall. In separate reports, Acad. Ivan Zagorchev and Acad. Christo Tsvetanov presented the contemporary view on scientific ethics and evaluation of scientific production as well as the enormous harm caused by the appearance of fringe journals, fake publications and other manifestations of pseudoscience. Prof. Evgeni Semkov revealed the fallacious nature of a number of fake sciences parasitizing around modern astronomy. New genomic techniques – opportunities and challenges for researchers and farmers

Scientists and experts presented scientific data and concrete results from the application of new genomic techniques, the advantages and disadvantages of their use, the opportunities they provide for solving a range of problems in medicine and agriculture. BAS celebrates World Water Day and World Meteorological Day

World Water Day on 22 March and World Meteorological Day on 23 March were celebrated today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The event was organized by the Climate, Atmosphere and Water Research Institute of BAS (CAWRI-BAS). Corr. Memb.
