Over 60 researchers from 14 countries discuss Christian missions in the European Middle Ages

The International Scientific Conference on "Christian Missions in the European Middle Ages and their Intellectual Heritage. History, Notions, Ideas" has been opened at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences today. More than 60 participants from 14 countries, representing 40 world Slavic and historical scientific centres, are taking part in the scientific forum. Prof. Valya Vassileva – among the eight selected participants from over 860 applications in Malmö Residency 2025

Prof. Dr. Valya Vassileva, Director of the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics at BAS, is among the eight scientists and innovators from around the world selected to participate in the prestigious international Malmö Residency 2025 programme. Besides personal success, this is also a recognition of the high scientific level and international commitment of the Bulgarian academic community. Malmö Residency is an initiative of more than 70 institutions, universities, companies and public organisations in the Swedish city of Malmö. Todorov Foundation Awards for Mathematics and Literature

  Awards of the Todorov Foundation were presented for the first time at a ceremony held on 20 May at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. The Foundation is named after the famous Bulgarian physicist Acad. Ivan T. Todorov (1933 - 2025) and aims to encourage the development of mathematical physics and mathematics in Bulgaria, as well as the creation of remarkable works of fiction in Bulgarian. Challenges for human resources in the green and digital transition discussed at the Economic Research Institute

Representatives of the scientific community, business and the executive discussed key challenges and solutions related to human resources in the green and digital transition at the "Sustainability of Human Resources for a Competitive Economy" national scientific conference. A renowned German Byzantinist gives a lecture on a project of IBSCT

On May 15, 2025, the Institute of Balkan Studies & Center for Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences held a public lecture by Professor Peter Schreiner, a visiting foreign Bulgarian Studies scholar. Professor Schreiner is a world-renowned scholar in the field of Byzantine and European medieval studies, a Doctor Honoris Causa of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and the "St. Cyril and St. Methodius" University of Veliko Tarnovo. For his outstanding services to the study of medieval Bulgarian history and the past of Samuil's Bulgaria, on October 3, 2024, he was awarded an honorary badge by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria. “Codes of Identity. Faith, Language, Nation” exhibition

  The "Codes of Identity. Faith, Language, Nation" exhibition was opened on 15 May 2025 at the National Anthropological Museum at the Institute of Experimental Morphology, Pathology and Anthropology of BAS. The exhibition is dedicated to two key events in Bulgarian history: 1160 years since the conversion to Christianity and 1140 years since the arrival of Cyrillo-Methodian disciples in Bulgaria. The opening was attended by the Vice-Presidents of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov and Prof. Shtelian Shterionov, as well as the Scientific Secretary-General of BAS Prof. Dr. Neli Koseva.
