Presentation of the results of the participation of the Institute of Art Studies in the project “Creation and development of “Heritage BG” Centre of Excellence”

On 12 December 2023, the results of the participation of the Institute for Art Studies (IAS) in the project "Creation and development of “Heritage BG” Centre of Excellence" funded under the "Science and Education for Smart Growth" Operational Programme were presented. It focuses on the discovery and promotion of cultural heritage in Bulgaria and aims both to provide better conditions for conducting high-level research and to introduce new technologies in the field to enhance the potential of applied science. In its first phase (2018 - 2023), the IAS is involved with three sub-projects. The official event was attended by the head and coordinator of “Heritage BG”, Corr. Memb. ОOfficial closing of the National Scientific Programme ” Innovative low-toxic bioactive systems for precision medicine (BioActiveMed)”

On December 13, 2023, the official closure of the National Scientific Programme "Innovative Low-toxic Bioactive Agents for Precision Medicine (BioActiveMed)" was held in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. The presentation was attended by Corr. Memb. Evdokiya Pasheva - Vice-President of BAS, members of the leadership of BAS, members of AACM and representatives of higher education institutions. Young scientists of BAS were among the finalists of the Huawei Technologies Bulgaria scholarship program

An official annual closing ceremony of the Huawei Technologies Bulgaria Scholarship Program and the Seeds for the Future training program, which have been implemented in 2023, was held on December 12 in Sofia. Among the finalists of the Huawei Technologies Bulgaria Scholarship Program are two young scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Iskren Ivanov is a PhD student at the Space Research and Technology Institute - BAS and for the second time is a finalist of the scholarship program. Four awards for young scientists of BAS

The Vice-President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evdokiya Pasheva presented four prizes to young scientists who were awarded in the competition for the best publication in the field of humanities and social sciences, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Nayden Gerov. Kalina Tomova from the Institute of Art Studies received first prize in the competition. The second prize was awarded to Darina Boykina from the Institute of Art Studies. The jury awarded two third prizes to Julia Popcheva from the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies and two young researchers from the National Archaeological Institute with Museum - Eva Tonkova and Veselina Dimitrova. The Institute of Electronics welcomed over 100 schoolchildren and students on the Open Doors Day

More than 100 schoolchildren and students went through the laboratories of the Institute of Electronics of BAS on the Open Doors Day held on 12 December. How biological tissue absorbs and scatters light and why food glows were told by scientists to primary school pupils, high school and university students. Researchers showed how to perform spectral analysis of foods and beverages based on their fluorescence. Through experiments, the scientists presented the basic laws of reflection, refraction and scattering of light. With demonstration models made of plasticine, students learned how cells attach to surfaces structured by the scientists at the institute. Official Opening of the Geo Milev Campus

 The Geo Milev Campus - the newest laboratory complex of BAS, was opened at an official ceremony today. The campus has a unique scientific infrastructure for the country, distributed in 20 newly created and 10 renovated laboratories. Thirteen of the newly created laboratories are located in the reconstructed and modernized Block 29, part of the Scientific Complex 1 of the BAS. The renovation of the infrastructure was implemented under the project "National Centre for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies" with funding from the "Science and Education for Smart Growth" Operational Programme 2014-2020. The established laboratory complex provides the necessary conditions for conducting fundamental and applied research to support Bulgaria's transition to a green, energy-efficient and circular economy.
