Meeting of Prof. Revalski with the Ambassador of Japan H. E. Hisashi Michigami

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, met today with the Ambassador of Japan to Bulgaria H.E. Hisashi Michigami. Prof. Revalski introduced the guest to the history, structure and activities of the Academy. The President also mentioned the good relations of BAS with Japanese institutions such as the Science Council of Japan, RIKEN and Osaka University. The Ambassador, for his part, drew attention to the long-standing friendship between Bulgaria and Japan, the importance of science and education for our two countries and the potential of Bulgaria's human resources in the field of technologies. Prof. Revalski participates in Dubai in a discussion on the impact of climate change on the Black Sea

Снимка: Георги Велев The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, took part in a discussion organized by the Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) to discuss the impact of climate change on the specificity of the Black Sea and environmental protection in its basin in the Bulgarian pavilion at COP28 in Dubai. In three thematic events, scientists and representatives of international organizations discussed issues related to the Black Sea ecosystem, the prospects for restoring Ukraine in an ecological way and conclusions from the work of Bulgarian scientists in Antarctica. Over 40 papers presented at a conference on the transition to a green economy at the Economic Research Institute

More than 40 papers were presented by scientists at a scientific conference at the Economic Research Institute (ERI) of BAS. The forum "Economic Development and Policies: Realities and Prospects" is an annual event, this year dedicated to the topic "National and European Challenges of the Transition to a Green Economy". It was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Finance and Energy, NGOs and academia in the country. The conference programme included 4 thematic areas - sustainable development, economic growth and labour market in the transition to a green economy; European perspectives and financing of the green transition; impacts of the transition to a green economy on the regional and sectoral economy and the transition to a green economy and companies. Awarded participants in the tenth high-school students’ scientific session

On December 2, the tenth edition of one of the Academy's educational initiatives aimed at students and teachers was opened - the High-School-Students’ Institute of BAS. The scientific competition session this year attracted participants from 29 schools and 17 cities in the country. The President of BAS opened the scientific forum by welcoming the participants of the session and encouraged the young people to be bold and active in their search for knowledge and communication with the scientific community. Prof. Revalski, Member of the Academy, expressed satisfaction with the level of the projects submitted for participation and the successful collaboration of scientists from the Academy's institutes with teachers and students from the country. A young scientist from the Institute for the State and Law at BAS with the “Dr. Ilko Eskenazi” award of the International Foundation “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”

Dr. Petar Topurov, Assistant Professor at the Civil Law department of the Institute for the State and Law of BAS, won the annual award for scientific publication in the field of legal science, named after Dr. Ilko Eskenazi. The prize has been awarded since 2005 by the International Foundation "St. St. Cyril and Methodius” and the “Dr. Ilko Eskenazi” Memorial Fund. The competition for the award aims to honour one written work in the fields of "Law" and "Economics" related to the integration of Bulgaria and its membership in the EU and is intended for young scholars up to 35 years of age. A discussion on the future of Artificial Intelligence

The future of Artificial Intelligence and the impact of this technology on different areas of human activity were discussed at an international seminar held at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on 30 November. The Vice-President of BAS Corr. Memb. Stefan Hadjitodorov and the Ambassador of Spain H.E. Alejandro Polanco opened the forum. The extremely rapid proliferation of systems based on Artificial Intelligence requires a good analysis of their capabilities and limitations, understanding of the legal, organisational and managerial issues involved, and optimisation of the relationship between their development and deployment in practice. Well-known Bulgarian and Spanish analysts participated in the discussion.
