Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ina Aneva introduces the students from the 4th Primary School “Prof. John Atanasoff” with moments from the work of scientists

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ina Aneva, Scientific Secretary of the Biodiversity, Bioresources and Ecology Division of BAS visited the "Prof. John Atanasov" 4th Primary School on February 4 and introduced the 4th grade students to the activities of the Academy and the importance of scientific research. During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Aneva talked about the history of BAS focusing on the key moments in the establishment of the institution and the work of scientists in various scientific fields. Special attention was paid to the work of scientists who research the rich biodiversity and contribute to its conservation. Shadow Economy Tolerance Index

The Institute of Philosophy and Sociology - BAS (IPS) has completed the implementation of a three-year research project "Shadow economy factor determination and approaches to limit it in Bulgarian society" (Contract KP-06-H35/9 of 18.12.2019), funded by the Bulgarian National Science Fund and implemented by a team under the scientific leadership of Prof. Emilia Chengelova. The project is a continuation of a decade-long tradition of scientists from IPS - BAS to study shady practices in the Bulgarian economy. What is new is the focus of the research lens on the empirical study of the "shadow economy" factor determination. A young scientist of BAS receives the Eureka Prize

The Eureka Awards were presented for the thirty-fifth time. They are awarded to young people for their significant achievements in science, for inventions of great social significance, for achievements in the management of business organisations, and for top results in the development of agricultural activities. The event was held on 30 January at the National Palace of Culture. The winner of the 2024 Eureka Prize for achievements in science is Dr. Maria Argirova - Senior Assistant Professor at the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry of BAS. She was awarded the prize for the defense of her dissertation on "Synthesis of 1H-benzimidazol-2-yl hydrazones and investigation of their anthelmintic, antineoplastic and radical-scavenging activity". Visit of the Ambassador of Romania to BAS

  The President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Romania to Bulgaria H.E. Brândușa Predescu. The meeting took place at the Academy and discussed the cooperation between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Romanian Academy, as well as the possibility of holding joint conferences, round tables and exhibitions. Н.E. Brândușa Predescu and Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva also discussed cooperation beyond the bilateral agreement between the two academies. As it is known, during the celebrations of the 155th anniversary of BAS in the Romanian Academy last September, the Agreement on Scientific Cooperation between the two academies was re-signed. “The pogrom in Bosilegrad 15-16 May 1917” at the National Assembly

The photodocumentary exhibition "The pogrom in Bosilegrad 15-16 May 1917" by Associate Professor Dr. Angel Dzhonev from the Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was opened on January 29 at the National Assembly. The exposition was organized with the assistance of the Bulgarian Cultural Information Centre in Bosilegrad. It should be recalled that on 15 and 16 May 1917 a Serbian detachment led by the voivode Kosta Pećanac penetrated the pre-war borders of the Kingdom of Bulgaria attacking the Bosilegrad region. As a result of the attack, 35 civilian Bulgarians were killed, the property of 317 households was destroyed, and the damage was estimated at over 2.5 million leva at the time. Scientists from BAS present opinions on speculations challenging the identity of Bulgarians in Serbia

Scientists from the Institute for Bulgarian Language and the Institute for Historical Studies of BAS presented at a press conference today their opinions on the speculations that challenged the Bulgarian national identity of the Bulgarians in Serbia. Prof. Ana Kocheva from the Institute for Bulgarian Language said that once again the idea of the existence of a separate "Shopi nation", speaking the "Shopski language", inhabiting both sides of the Bulgarian-Serbian border, as well as both sides of the current Serbian-North Macedonian border, was being circulated.
