Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva gets acquainted with BAS scientific projects

  The participation of scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in the Horizon Europe Framework Programme has been discussed at a meeting at the Academy by the President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva and the Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva. Sweden and UK join LOFAR ERIC

Eight countries are now members of the European Radio Astronomy Research Consortium Infrastructure Sweden and the UK are the new members of LOFAR ERIC (LOFAR European Radio Telescope Research Infrastructure Consortium) following a Council Decision of March 2025. This brings the total membership to eight countries, marking an important milestone in the development of this innovative research infrastructure. Bulgaria, together with Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland, are the founding members of LOFAR ERIC. LOFAR is a pan-European project involving 52 antenna stations for observing the Universe in eight countries: the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, France, Ireland, Latvia, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Round table at the National Assembly on “Demography – trends, problems and solutions”

On April 30, a round table on "Demography - Trends, Problems and Solutions" organized by Minister Gutsanov was held at the National Assembly in which scientists from the Institute for Population and Human Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IPHS - BAS) presented papers on the trends and ways to overcome the demographic crisis in Bulgaria. The Director of the Institute, Prof. Antoaneta Hristova, pointed out that this discussion was a continuation of the analysis of the demographic crisis conducted by the Institute for Population and Human Studies 7 years ago. Prof. Hristova pointed out with regret that the scientific forecasts made by the Institute had come true and Bulgaria was falling into the most pessimistic scenario of a rapidly ageing and declining population. BAS leadership discusses forms of cooperation with India

  The President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva met with the Ambassador of India to Bulgaria H.E. Mr. Arun Kumar Sahu. The Ambassador noted the dynamic development of science in India and stressed the need to establish a contractual framework for cooperation between BAS and scientific organizations in India which would contribute to strengthening the ties between the scientific communities of the two countries. The meeting, which took place at BAS on 30.04 this year, also discussed the opportunities for training of PhD students from India in the scientific units of BAS and holding events jointly with the Embassy of India. Meeting of the President of BAS with the Rector of Baku Slavic University

The President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva met today at the Academy with the Rector of Baku Slavic University, Azerbaijan, Dr. Anar Nagiyev. The main activities at the University are the teaching and study of Slavic languages and the in-depth study of the history and culture of the countries where these languages are spoken. Dr. Nagiyev informed Corr. Memb. Slavcheva about the work of the Centre for Bulgarian Studies which was part of the University structure. The Centre currently has more than 50 students, and the study of Bulgarian language enjoys great interest. Corr. Memb. The President of the Parliament joins the BAS initiative “Peaceful Atom-Green Planet”

An initiative under the "Peaceful atom-green planet" motto was held today at Science Complex 2 of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The event marked the 39th anniversary of the Chernobyl NPP. The President of the National Assembly Nataliya Kiselova and the President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva took part in the initiative organized by the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy (INRNE) in cooperation with the Institute of Solid State Physics, the Institute of Electronics, the Central Laboratory of Solar Energy and New Energy Sources and the State Enterprise "Radioactive Waste".
