Sofia Airport to be named after Vasil Levski

The International Airport in Sofia to be named after Vasil Levski proposes the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy. QUASAR Centre announces the launch of the National Quantum Communication Infrastructure Plan of Bulgaria

The construction of the first of its kind quantum communication network in Bulgaria was officially launched on 10 February. It is implemented within the European initiative EuroQCI - European Platform for Quantum Communication Infrastructure. The initiative is aimed at building a unified quantum-communication network across the European Union, with Brussels aiming to ensure cybersecurity and communication sovereignty. The advanced computing capabilities of quantum computers make standard cyber defence increasingly difficult. It is for this reason that in 2020 the European Commission launched the EuroQCI Initiative, in which the Member States of the European Union participate. Eventually, all networks should be brought together into a single European network through interconnections. Awards for PhD students under the “Huawei ICT Talents Training Seeds for the Future” Scholarship Programme

At an official ceremony held on 07.02.2023 at Sofia Event Space 2020, Huawei Technologies Bulgaria honored students and PhD students from all over the country. The young people are finalists of the Huawei ICT Talents Training Seeds for the Future scholarship programme and were selected by a specially formed jury based on the short videos they submitted on topics related to new information and communication technologies (ICT). Among the official guests of the event was the Vice President of BAS, Corr. Mem. Evdokia Pasheva, who delivered a welcoming speech. Scientific Conference "150 Years of Immortality: Vasil Levski, the Revolution and the Future World” was held on 6 February 2023 in Meeting Hall 1, SU “St. Kliment Ohridski” Rectorate. The organisers of the forum were the Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". STELLAR Schools on Radio Astronomy Research and Technologies

Undergraduates, Master and PhD students and young scientists in astronomy, physics, engineering, computer science and mathematics can apply for participation in the final three schools of the STELLAR project ("Scientific and Technological Excellence by Leveraging LOFAR Advances in Radio Astronomy"). STELLAR (2020-2023) is a transformational project under Horizon 2020, training the next generation of Bulgarian radio astronomers related to the upcoming construction and future sustainable development of a Bulgarian station of the pan-European distributed low-frequency radio telescope LOFAR.
