BAS economists: Bulgaria meets all criteria for joining the euro area on 1 January 2026

The short-term forecast in the Annual Report of ERI at BAS is for GDP to grow at a rate of around 2.5-3.5% per year, driven mainly by European investment and domestic consumption. Inflation in Bulgaria in the past 2024 slowed down to 2.2% which brought our country closer to meeting the Maastricht criteria for euro area membership. This is stated in the regular Annual Report "Economic Development and Policies in Bulgaria: Evaluations and Prospects" of the Economic Research Institute (ERI) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Acad. Vassil Nikolov and Assoc. Prof. Popov with “Guardian of Heritage” awards

Acad. Vassil Nikolov, the Director of the National Archaeological Institute with Museum of BAS Assoc. Prof. Hristo Popov, and Prof. Necmi Karul from Istanbul University received "Guardian of Heritage" awards during the "Diplomacy of Wonders" event, which took place on June 16 (at the Ramada Hotel). It was hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey and the Cultural Heritage Society. The event was opened by Mrs. Slavka Bozukova, President of the Cultural Heritage Society and H.E. Mehmet Sait Uyanık, Ambassador of Turkey to Bulgaria. Acad. The “MUSICORUM VIA. Two Academies – One Stage” concerts continue in September at BAS

MUSICORUM VIA has ended the academic year 2024-2025 at BAS The season of our new initiative "MUSICORUM VIA. Two academies - one stage" ended yesterday with a concert of PhD students from the "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" National Music Academy in the "Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall of BAS-Administration. This is the tenth concert in the series of performances of NMA students and lecturers to the academic community and the citizens of the capital. Works by J. С. Bach, Huang Tzu, J. Brahms, Giuseppe Verdi, P. Vladigerov, D. Arnaudov, etc. were presented. The concert featured doctoral student instrumentalists (piano, double bass, flute, clarinet) and singers. Minister Valchev gets acquainted with new projects of BAS

The opportunities of science to support new industries and education were discussed at a meeting with the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev by scientists from the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (IICT) and the Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems (IEES). The scientists presented the scientific activities and the latest developments with international funding that they are currently working on. BAS presents research developments at Green Transition Forum

Scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences are participating in the Green Transition Forum 5.0 which has opened today and will last until 20 June at the Sofia Event Center. Competitiveness and innovation in Central and Eastern European countries are the focus of the largest transformation and development event in the region. Teams of institutes from different scientific fields of BAS are presenting current developments and news thematically related to the main topics of the forum. Presentation of the book “Macedonia in European Ethnic Cartography (Mid-19th Century – End of the First World War 1918)”

The book "Macedonia in European Ethnic Cartography (Mid-19th century - the end of the First World War 1918)" (Македония в европейската етническа картография (Средата на XIX в. – края на Първата световна война 1918 г.) by Acad. Ivan Ilchev was presented on June 10 at the Prof. Marin Drinov Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The publication includes 60 maps. "This is a remarkable book, which on the one hand continues the tradition of publishing similar maps in Bulgaria, and on the other - of publishing sources for Macedonia.
