Memorandum of Understanding between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia

A Memorandum of Understanding between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia was signed today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences by the Presidents, Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, and Acad. Ashot Saghyan. The document covers a wide range of scientific fields, including engineering, biomedicine, biodiversity and ecology, climate change and natural disasters, astronomy and space research, social sciences and humanities. There will be opportunities for exchanges between scientists from the two academies and for the organisation of scientific events. Success stories of Bulgarian scientists in the Pasteur Network

A solemn celebration dedicated to the 77th anniversary of the founding of the Stephan Angeloff Institute of Microbiology - BAS (IMicB) and to the 20th anniversary of its membership in the Pasteur network was held on 7 March at the Institute. Scientists uncover new function of a key protein – target of potent anti-cancer therapy

Dr. Radoslav Alexandrov and Assoc. Prof. Stoyno Stoynov PARP inhibitors are anticancer drugs that selectively inhibit the growth of tumors with deficiencies in DNA repair capacity, and are being approved for a growing number of indications. A deeper understanding of the mechanisms of action of PARP inhibitors as well as the function of their target PARP1 represent a hot topic in molecular oncology. Erik Dimitrov from the Institute of Polymers is the winner of the “Prof. Ivan Shopov” award for 2024

Ерик Димитров, проф. Венко Бешков (председател на СХБ) и проф. Иван Шопов Erik Dimitrov, Prof. Venko Beshkov (Chairman of the UChB) and Prof. Ivan Shopov Erik Dimitrov from the Institute of Polymers of BAS is awarded the "Outstanding Young Scientist in the field of Polymers" prize. It is named after Prof. Ivan Shopov and is awarded by the Union of Chemists in Bulgaria. The award was presented at a ceremony held on 1 March. Eric Dimitrov's research is dedicated to the development of novel nanostructured polymeric drug carriers. The polymer carriers are based on spherical nucleic acids of polymer-oligonucleotide conjugates, micellar carriers based on block copolymers, and modified niosomes for systemic delivery of biologically active substances. Prof. Revalski, Member of BAS, met with the Ambassador of Mongolia to Bulgaria

The conclusion of a cooperation agreement between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Mongolian Academy of Sciences was discussed by the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski and the Ambassador of Mongolia to Bulgaria H.E. Lhagvasuren Sayanaa. Ambassador Sayanaa committed to facilitate the resumption of relations between the two academies and to create a new framework for joint research in areas of common interest.

First Meeting of the Presidents of the Academies of Sciences of the BSEC Member States in Istanbul

On the initiative of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), the First Meeting of the Presidents of the Academies of Sciences of the BSEC Member States was organized in Istanbul with the participation of the rectors of leading Turkish universities. The President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, participated in the meeting which took place on 14 and 15 February.
