Solemn celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Institute for Literature

  The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, presented a GOLDEN honorary plaquette to the Director of the Institute for Literature Assoc. Prof. Penka Vatova on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of founding of the Institute. The celebration was held today at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of the Academy. A young scientist of BAS with an award from the German Physical Society

Dr. Daniela Doneva from the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy has been awarded the Gustav Hertz Young Scientist Award of the German Physical Society for 2024. Dr. Doneva's scientific developments are in the field of cosmology. Her research is devoted to the study of black holes and neutron stars in generalized scalar-tensor theories of gravitation. Dr. Doneva acquired the scientific and educational degree "Doctor" at the Faculty of Physics of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" under the supervision of Corr. Memb. Stoycho Yazadzhiev. Since 2012, she has been working at the University of Tübingen, Germany. The activities of Bulgarian scientists in European projects and valuable archival publications were presented by BAS to Commissioner Iliana Ivanova

   The participation of scientific units of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in large-scale international projects was discussed at a meeting of representatives of the Academy with the EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova. The Secretary General of BAS Prof. Neli Koseva presented an update on the results of the multilateral activities of the scientists, the implementation of projects both under the Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation of the European Union as well as funded from national sources. The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is actively involved in scientific capacity building, coordinating 23 out of 51 infrastructure sites under the National Roadmap for Scientific Infrastructure. Virtual interactive models of authentic folk costumes and three-dimensional models of archaeological sites were shown by scientists to Commissioner Iliana Ivanova

Scientists from the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of BAS presented the possibilities of state-of-the-art tools for 3D digitalization to the Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova. 3D models obtained by laser scanning, close-range and aerial photogrammetry methods were demonstrated. The scientists also showed the Commissioner virtual interactive scenes with models of authentic folk costumes from the collection of the National Ethnographic Museum as well as three-dimensional models of archaeological sites. During the visit, the researchers also presented how the laser scanning and computed tomography systems work, as well as the results of research conducted with them. Prize for outstanding achievement in the field of historical anthropology of Southeast Europe for young researchers

  Sen. Asst. Prof. Dr. Mina Hristova from the Section of Balkan Ethnology at IEFSEM-BAS was awarded on November 10 with the Karl Kaser Prize for outstanding achievements in the field of historical anthropology of Southeast Europe for young researchers for her first monograph "We are Bulgarians but not quite". Interspaces and Hybrid Identities in the Balkans in the 21st Century. The prize was shared between her and another young researcher from Slovenia, Dr. Daša Ličen, after a long and contested selection process. This is the first prize awarded since the loss of Prof. Dr. Karl Kaser (1954-2022), one of the most outstanding anthropologists of the last century. Joint Academy Day of EASAC

ÖAW/Daniel Hinterramskogler On November 6, 2023, the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, took part in the Joint Academy Day organized by the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the European Academies’ Science Advisory Council (EASAC). From the beginning of 2024, the Austrian Academy of Sciences will host the EASAC Secretariat. The EASAC President, Prof. Wim van Saarloos, opened the event with a lecture on "Academies’ Scientific Councils in Support of Policy - Unification at European Level within EASAC". The event continued with a panel discussion on "Energy Transition: realistic ambitions and ambitious prospects" on EASAC's latest report The Future of Gas.
