Scientists from BAS present opinions on speculations challenging the identity of Bulgarians in Serbia

Scientists from the Institute for Bulgarian Language and the Institute for Historical Studies of BAS presented at a press conference today their opinions on the speculations that challenged the Bulgarian national identity of the Bulgarians in Serbia. Prof. Ana Kocheva from the Institute for Bulgarian Language said that once again the idea of the existence of a separate "Shopi nation", speaking the "Shopski language", inhabiting both sides of the Bulgarian-Serbian border, as well as both sides of the current Serbian-North Macedonian border, was being circulated. She added that the Bulgarian dialect and literary language extended beyond the state borders as Bulgarian territories at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century remained outside the country's borders. Visit of the Minister of Education and Science to BAS

The funding of the Academy's activities and research was discussed at a meeting at BAS by the President Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev and Deputy Minister Acad. Nikolay Vitanov. The participation of scientists from the Academy in national scientific programs and as lecturers in Bulgarian universities were also among the topics of the discussion. The President of BAS briefed the Minister on the priorities in her programme for managing the Academy. The meeting was held immediately after a meeting of the General Assembly of BAS to elect three Vice-Presidents and a Scientific Secretary-General.

The Honorary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium H.E. Philippe Beke with a lecture at BAS

On 17.01.2025, the Honorary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in Sofia - H.E. Philippe Beke presented a lecture on "Leadership in Environmental Responsibility, Social Commitment and Efficient Governance as a Marker of the EU in Global Affairs" at BAS. The event was organised by the Centre for National Security and Defence Research (CNSDR) at BAS. Ambassador Dai Qingli lectures on China’s role in the world economy

The Institute of Economic Studies has opened a library section with books in Chinese At the invitation of the Economic Research Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Her Excellency Dai Qingli, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Bulgaria, delivered a lecture on "New political trends in the Chinese economy and prospects for China-EU and China-Bulgaria cooperation". The President of BAS presents awards at the Academic Oscars ceremony

The President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva attended the official award ceremony of the best universities of Bulgaria for 2024 which was held at the NV Tower in Sofia.
