Applications are now open for “Best Youth Startup in Bulgaria 2026”

The fifth edition of the national youth competition will offer support for a larger number of projects, a rich training and mentoring program as well as numerous in-person and online events. From January 12 to April 24, 2026 young people from all over the country aged between 18 and 29 (including students and pupils in grades 11 and 12) with bold and innovative business ideas can take part in the fifth edition of the “Best Youth Startup in Bulgaria” national competition. Fake medicinal products

The chairman of the Forum for Combating Pseudoscience at BAS, Acad. Ivan Juhnovski, filed a report with the Bulgarian Drug Agency regarding the widespread sale in Bulgarian pharmacies of over 40 fake medicinal products manufactured by the Boiron homeopathic company. The report is supported by Academician Dr. Bogdan Petrunov, Corresponding Member Dr. Tsvetalina Tankova, Academician Christo Tsvetanov, Academician Ivan Zagorchev, Academician Ivan Ivanov, and Prof. Ivan Ivanov. Chemical tests on homeopathic sugar granules from the pharmacy network have established that the quantities of accompanying technological admixtures (inorganic salts and elements) contained in them are billions of times greater than the quantities of the same salts and elements indicated by the degree of dilution on the labels of homeopathic preparations with the same chemical formula. Report to the Commission for Consumer Protection

  On December 11, Academician Ivan Juhnovski, Chairman of the Forum for Combating Pseudoscience at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, together with Corr. Memb. Dr. Tsvetalina Tankova, Acad. Ivan Ivanov, Acad. Ivan Zagorchev, and Prof. Ivan Ivanov submitted a report to Alexander Kolyachev, President of the Commission for Consumer Protection, regarding false, misleading, and deceptive advertising and descriptions of 46 homeopathic medicinal products currently on sale. The grounds and evidence for this report are detailed studies of the chemical composition of the homeopathic sugar granules in question which show that they contain billions of times more inorganic salts and elements than stated on the labels and in their descriptions, part of the nomenclature of the Boiron homeopathic company. Japanese Ambassador H.E. Chikahisa Sumi visits the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

  The President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, met with the Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Chikahisa Sumi, today at the Academy. Corr. Memb. Slavcheva opened the meeting with a presentation of BAS, introducing the guest to its history, structure, scientific institutes, and main areas of research activity. H.E. Best Young Scientist in the Field of Mechanics – 2025 Award

  During the annual scientific session of the Institute of Mechanics on December 5, the award ceremony for "Best Young Scientist in the Field of Mechanics – 2025" took place. The award was established ten years ago by the National Committee on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (NCTAM) at BAS at the proposal of Academician Yachko Ivanov and is funded by him.
