Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva meets with representatives of the “St. Cyril and St. Methodius” international foundation

The cooperation between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the “St. Cyril and St. Methodius” international foundation was discussed at a meeting today at BAS by Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva and representatives of the Foundation. Among the topics of discussion were joint initiatives on the occasion of the celebration of the 1160th anniversary of the conversion of the Bulgarians and the 1170th anniversary of the creation of the Bulgarian alphabet. “St. St. Cyril and St. Methodius” Foundation will continue to support the activities of the High-School-Students’ Institute of BAS (HSSI-BAS). The meeting was attended by the President of the Foundation, Prof. Stefan Stefanov, and the Executive Director Mihael Tachev.

Honorable mentions for Prof. Aleksander Naumow from Bulgaria and Poland

With a particularly solemn and lavish ceremony, according to its centuries-old tradition, on 24 June Jagiellonian University renewed the doctorate of the doyen of Polish Paleo-Slavic studies, Bulgarian and Cyrillo-Methodian studies, Prof. Aleksander Naumow - on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its bestowing. The Rector of the University, Prof. DSc Piotr Jedynak presented the merits of Prof. Naumow to their Alma Mater, his enormous scientific and didactic contribution, as well as his numerous and productive ideas that gave a strong impetus to the study of the spiritual culture of Slavdom. France honours Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, with the Order of the Academic Palms

  One of the most prestigious awards of the French Republic - the Ordre des Palmes Académiques, the degree of Chevalier (Knight), was awarded to Professor Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, at a ceremony held on 25 June at the Embassy of France. The Order ranks third in importance among French state decorations, behind only the Legion of Honour and the National Order of Merit. The award was presented by His Excellency Mr. Joël Meyer, Ambassador of France to Bulgaria. Special guests at the ceremony were the Minister of Education and Science, Mr. Krasimir Valchev, the President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Science, Prof. Andrey Chorbanov, representatives of the academic community and prominent public figures. [...]

BAS and BICA discuss joint cooperation

The opportunities for deepening the cooperation between the Bulgarian scientific community and the real sector of the economy in order to promote and develop innovations and their implementation in practice were discussed by the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, and the Chairman of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association, Mr. Rumen Radev, at the Academy today. Among the main topics of the meeting were  specifically the opportunities for linking scientific developments with enterprises interested in their application, including the development of new hydrogen solutions. Bulgaria hosts the 16th General Assembly of ELI ERIC

The 16th meeting of the General Assembly of the "Extreme Light" European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ELI ERIC) was opened by the President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva. The accession of our country as a full member of ELI ERIC is a significant step, Corr. Memb. Slavcheva said and stressed that this reflected the ambition to be an active participant in building the scientific potential of Europe in the field of laser technologies. The meeting was also attended by Acad. Nikola Sabotinov (Chairman of BAS 2008-2012) who had invented the world's first copper bromide vapour laser.
