The role of innovation and new technologies in the partnership between Bulgaria and China was discussed today at a forum attended by representatives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the government, economists, and public figures. Students from several schools in Sofia and university students visited the laboratories at the Scientific Complex 2 of BAS during the first joint Open Day which took place on November 21. The President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, presented the honorary award "FOR SERVICE TO BAS" to Prof. Vladko Panayotov. The Academy's Governing Council awarded the distinction to Corresponding Member Panayotov for his scientific and applied contributions to metallurgy and in connection with his 75th birthday. Corr. Memb. Panayotov is a renowned scientist in the fields of chemistry, mining, environmental enrichment and protection, with numerous publications and scientific developments that are highly regarded in Bulgaria and internationally. He is an active member of scientific communities and participates in a number of commissions and expert councils, supporting the development of science and education in the country.

The Vice-President of BAS, Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, was the chairman of the commission. Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov presented the “St. Paisius of Hilendar” State Award to Prof. Hristo Yotsov at a ceremony held today in the Granite Hall of the Council of Ministers. This year's winner was selected by a commission at the Ministry of Culture headed by Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, Vice-President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. “The award, established at the beginning of our century, has so far been presented mainly to masters of the word, or more generally to contemporary writers or scholars. At a ceremony in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Angel Zlatkov from the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was awarded the “Danubius” Young Scientist Award of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research of the Republic of Austria and the Institute for Danube Region and Central Europe. Introduced in 2014, the “Danubius” Award seeks to highlight the scientific work and talent of young researchers and enhance the visibility of the scientific community in the region. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of “Angel Kanchev” University of Ruse, a series of events were held between November 10 and 12, 2025.
