Todorov Foundation Awards for Mathematics and Literature

  Awards of the Todorov Foundation were presented for the first time at a ceremony held on 20 May at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. The Foundation is named after the famous Bulgarian physicist Acad. Ivan T. Todorov (1933 - 2025) and aims to encourage the development of mathematical physics and mathematics in Bulgaria, as well as the creation of remarkable works of fiction in Bulgarian. The first winners of the prize were named during his lifetime by the patron of the Foundation, and for 2025 they are: Corr. Memb. “Codes of Identity. Faith, Language, Nation” exhibition

  The "Codes of Identity. Faith, Language, Nation" exhibition was opened on 15 May 2025 at the National Anthropological Museum at the Institute of Experimental Morphology, Pathology and Anthropology of BAS. The exhibition is dedicated to two key events in Bulgarian history: 1160 years since the conversion to Christianity and 1140 years since the arrival of Cyrillo-Methodian disciples in Bulgaria. The opening was attended by the Vice-Presidents of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov and Prof. Shtelian Shterionov, as well as the Scientific Secretary-General of BAS Prof. Dr. Neli Koseva. Unique gladiator helmet studied at the Institute of Physical Chemistry

  Valuable cultural and historical artifacts, rescued and returned to the country with the support of international partners, were presented on May 14 at the Ministry of Culture. The ceremony of the presentation of the artifacts was attended by the Minister of Culture Marian Bachev, the Deputy Minister Dr. Todor Chobanov, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Bulgaria H.E. Raymund Furrer and the Deputy Head of the German Mission in Sofia Stephan Röken. Popular arias performed by young talents on the BAS stage

  A concert under the title "Spring Walk" was performed by the graduates of the National Music Academy last night at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall. Students of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mariana Pencheva presented performances from the Baroque to the music of the 20th century. The program included popular arias from operas by Mozart, Wagner, Georg Handel, Gaetano Donizetti and others. Particularly impressive were the performances of some Master's students, as well as the countertenor Yordan Petev from the Vocal Faculty. BAS participates in the Sofia Science Festival

Scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences are participating in the Sofia Science Festival 2025 which takes place from today to 11 May in Sofia Tech Park. BAS leadership discusses forms of cooperation with India

  The President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva met with the Ambassador of India to Bulgaria H.E. Mr. Arun Kumar Sahu. The Ambassador noted the dynamic development of science in India and stressed the need to establish a contractual framework for cooperation between BAS and scientific organizations in India which would contribute to strengthening the ties between the scientific communities of the two countries. The meeting, which took place at BAS on 30.04 this year, also discussed the opportunities for training of PhD students from India in the scientific units of BAS and holding events jointly with the Embassy of India.
